Feedback- Buddies Weekend Format/ Rules

Recommended Posts

I'm starting the planning for an upcoming buddies trip.... any feedback/ suggestions/ modifications/ ideas / things that have worked well for your trips (etc) would be greatly appreciated! Also, if you have any templates for tracking/ schedule/ player information (etc) I would certain love to have a look at them!

4x18 holes over 4 days. 16 players/ mixed ability....approx 4 sub 10 handicap/ 4 somewhere between 11 and 20/ remaining 8 somewhere in the 20's (with a couple probably in the 30's...). Day 1 will be an individual competition (also used to reset handicaps), then day 2-4 will be a 2x teams event (Presidents Cup style)

This is my starting point:

Day 1: Stableford (individual)- not part of the main teams event. Used to reset/ adjust handicaps etc for days 2-4. There will be an overall winner for the day, etc

Day 2-4: We'll divide into 2 teams and compete Ryder Cup style.... each foursome will have 2 players from one team competing against 2 players from the other team for 1 point.

Day 2: BEST BALL MATCH PLAY: each player on the team plays their individual ball until holed. The best individual NET score made on the hole is posted as the team's score... Lowest score wins the hole

Day 3: AMBROSE (2 man scramble)- stroke Handicap is the 2 combined handicaps divided by 4... min 6 tee shots per player to be used

Day 4: TEAM MATCH PLAY (Combined Score): where each player’s NET scores are added together and the team with the lowest score wins the hole.

We'll also be using the following 'RELAXED RULES'.... normal golf rules apply except for the following:

1. PENALTIES: All are one stroke, including out of bounds, water and lateral hazards, lost ball and unplayable lie. Drop a ball near where the original was lost and play on

2. GET A GOOD LIE: Players can move the ball within 30 cm's ... anywhere on the course EXCEPT for Greens

3. CONCEDED PUTTS: Putts may be conceded with your playing partners’ consent

4. TRY THAT AGAIN: Each player can have one mulligan per 9 holes (2 each)- EXCLUDES putts

5. MAXIMUM SCORE: NET Triple Bogey (i.e. 6 on par 3s, 7 on par 4s….)…. Compulsory to then pick the ball up. Score is recorded as a net triple bogey

There will be a variety of betting options/ nearest the pins/ longest drive... as well as the following which i think i found on this site somewhere... but if you have any other suggestions, fire away

Beer cup game...everyone starts with $10 in dollar coins in an empty beer cup and everyone is encouraged to make any type of bet, anytime on anything! Each player had to bet at least $10 throughout the round, and once their money was gone they were done. Example - Player A bets - $2 you can't hit the green, Player B can accept or decline, double the bet, add odds like my $2 to your $5 etc. Bet on anything, putts, shots into greens, par 5s in 2, bet guy will end up in the water or can't get outta of a bunker, team can bet another team on a hole etc....

Thanks in advance!

On another day we do an "ice ball" event.

You still play in foursomes and keep your own scores for bets and skins but with an added twist...the Ice Ball.

Works like this:

Each foursome gets a sleeve of specially marked Ice balls. The Ice ball is rotated each hole. Player 1 plays it tee to green on holes 1,5,9,13,17. Player 2 plays it 2,6,10...etc, Player 3 plays it on holes 3,7, 11 etc, Player 4 holes, 4,8,12.....

Scoring goes as follows: Ice Ball score is always counted plus best other score on hole.

So, if on hole 1 Ice ball scores a 5, and the other best score on hole 1 is a 4, the Team Ice ball score for that hole is 9. Add up 18 hole team score for a total (usually in the 140-160 range)

If a team LOSES an Ice Ball, add two shots to the total score for each ice ball lost.. We usually play this on then toughest courses to facilitate lost balls.

If a team loses no Ice Balls, they get a 3 shot reduction to the total team score.

$10 a man, winning team keeps all. You've never seen grown men look so hard for a ball.

Lots of fun, pressure packed for ice ball forced carries, OB, water holes, etc...

Plan your tee rotation carefully to put your best guys on the tougher holes.
