You can always tip trim a shaft, but the ICON FH is designed to be stable enough not to require tip trimming.

Tip trimming in general is a steel shaft phenomenon - required with steel because the small, soft tip needs to be stiffened for dispersion control as the clubhead gets heavier.

Graphite shafts can easily be designed to not require trimming for dispersion control for heavier heads, and the ICON FH has been designed in such a manner.

Any tip trimming you do will simply lower the trajectory, not control dispersion.

Tip trimming 1/4" will do nothing interesting and will not be noticable. Shaft to shaft deviation in the manufacturing process will result in more differences than 1/4" of trimming will reveal.

i respectfully disagree. you will notice. any tip trimming is noticeable. dispersion will tighten + trajectory will be lowered.

You can disagree all you want, it's not going to change my position.

Just for fun, I grabbed four differnet ICON FH R flex shafts from inventory and measured them. They have a butt frequency range of 8 cpm from the highest to the lowest. 1/4" of tip trimming is less than 2 cpm in this shaft - clearly inside the manufacturing tolerances for the shaft.

If it floats your boat, trim away - however I would put money on no measurable difference in ball flight between an ICON FH installed with no trimming and that same shaft trimmed 1/4" if you did not know which club was which before you hit it.

I would trust thewitt, he does this for a living. If you're SS ranges all the way from 95-110 with a driver, I doubt you'd recognize a difference. My driver SS is 105-108 and I use S flex untipped that Jody at Accuflex recommended, works great, gets up fast, generally high ballflight on normal swings.

For my swing I put a heavy load on the shaft too, which is why I usually like stiffer shafts, but it keeps up well. It's a good shaft all around, especially for the price.
