That sucks!! He was playing pretty well this weekend too.

that is killer for me considering he was playing well and needs the money considering he is 163 on the money list

Kevin Stadler, tied for fifth at 15-under heading into the third round, was disqualified after reporting on the first hole that that he had an illegal club -- a wedge with a bent shaft -- in his bag.

 

PGA Tour rules official Slugger White made the ruling after carefully checking the rules to make sure that Stadler had to be disqualified. The golfer was walking down the eighth fairway when the ruling was made official.

 

Stadler, striding briskly from the clubhouse to the parking lot, obviously was upset.

 

``I looked down on the first hole and noticed it,'' he said.

 

Asked how the club might have gotten bent, Stadler said, ``I have no idea.''

He played an unconforming club....I think it was after the first hole when he noticed his wedge was bent. After reporting it to the officials...and numerous phone calls....he was DQ'ed.

 

I was really hoping he'd have a great weekend. He's right on the bubble and needed a good finish.

very unfortunate for him, could he have removed the bent club when he noticed it? if he removes it after he started his round would he still get DQ'd or is he accessed penalty strokes?

Once it is bent and he has used it, he is dead. It is unfortunate, but you also have to give him credit for calling it out himself. I felt bad for him, he was pretty fumed when he was riding off the course.

thats a shame, did he anounce it on the first tee, or hole? if it was on the tee he should not have been DQ'd

Golfer trying to move up money list kicked off for using bad club

 

No player in the Michelin Championship at Las Vegas needed a high finish more than Kevin Stadler. He entered the $4 million event in 163rd place on the money list and in jeopardy of losing his 2006 PGA Tour card.

 

Only the top 125 in earnings retain their card for the next season.

 

Stadler began the final round of the Michelin Championship on Sunday at TPC Summerlin tied for fourth, just three shots out of the lead.

 

But Stadler was disqualified for using a nonconforming club.

 

His lob wedge was bent about a foot above the hosel and was ruled illegal. Stadler discovered it as he pulled the wedge out to use it on the first fairway. He informed PGA Tour rules official Slugger White, who happened to be sitting in a golf cart behind the first green watching.

 

Stadler thought it would be a two-shot penalty, but White suspected it meant disqualification.

 

White, a former player himself, didn't want to disqualify Stadler if he didn't have to, though. He combed the rules and then phoned rules experts at the U.S. Golf Association several times.

 

White warned Stadler at No. 4 that it looked as if he would be disqualified and then had to tell him as he was heading to the ninth hole.

 

"It made me sick," White said. "I hate that. That's the worst part of my job. I told him, 'I'll be back to you.' I saw him on four tee and told him I was exhausting every effort I can here to keep this from being a disqualification. He had no idea that's where it was going."

 

Stadler was reluctant to speak about it after his round. He said he hadn't used the club to warm up and had no idea how it became bent.

 

But it seriously hurt his chance to move up on the money list.

 

"It's devastating because I haven't done (anything) all year," he said before climbing into his car.
