Bushnell Tour V4 Slope vs Tour X

Recommended Posts

In the market for a rangefinder and considering these two. I know the Tour V4 isn't out yet, but the specs are listed on the Bushnell site.

Anyone either waiting for the V4 Slope or decide the Tour X is a better option? The Tour X is listed on Amazon for about what the V4 Slope will be when it's released.

Tour V4 Slope

Smaller/Lighter

1 yard flag readings

Waterproof

Black optics only

5x magnification

Tour X

1/2 yard readings (only a WRX'er could need this)

Extra 50 yards to flag - 450, (again only a WRX'er)

Black/Red optics

ESP 2 faster reading

Rainproof

6x magnification

I just tried out the Tour X vs Tour Z6. The Tour X's red display was no where near as bright/crisp as the Z6 so IMO it wasn't even worth having the X on red.

If you're not into the red then I'd wait until the V4 is in stores and try them both out. I much prefer the size of the Z6 over Tour X and the V4 is going to be closer to Z6, maybe even more comfortable with the thumb slot. (I wear a ML cadet glove).

Anyone know when the V4 is supposed to be released? Previously everything just said Early April but I noticed on Golfsmith that the expected ship date is 06/15.

They are just hitting stores today. Dicks, Golfsmith and Golf Galaxy. I picked one up from Golfsmith this morning. He had to go dig in the back for it but it was there.

How do you like the V4 since you have had it for almost a week?

This is the first rangefinder I have owned. I have used some of my buddies before but not a consistent basis. With that said I really like it. The size is nice and small which is awesome. I bought it last Friday and was able to turn the slope off and use it in a tournament on Saturday and then back on for a practice round on Sunday. That was one of the main reasons I bought it. I wanted the slope function but I also wanted to use it in a tourney. Its fast and accurate. Hopefully it will last me for a long time.

Never competed in tournament play but how do they determine if you have the slope turned on or off? I get the Tour X has the removable face plate but just curious if there was some sort of external indicator depending on what mode you are in with v4.

Yes, you can cycle through settings for the rangefinder to provide readings in yards, meters, yards w slope, meters w slope.

Is slope technology beneficial for you guys to spend the extra money? My 4 year old bushnell just broke and I'm looking for a replacement.

I'm in the same boat, debating whether to fork over an extra $80 just for it to tell me to club up/down. I really like the slop edition but hard (for me) to justify a $330+ rangefinder.

There is no external indicator. If it comes in to question an official or playing partner would need to look through the view finder to confirm that slope is off.

An extra $80 is a healthy jump for a feature that may not be needed. I purchased the V4 slope edition because I intend to use this for as long as I possibly can. This is the first and hopefully the last rangefinder I will every buy so I wanted to but one with the latest and greatest features. I would rather have it and not need it than not have it and wish I had it. This isn't one of those things that I feel I need to upgrade every couple of years.

Picked up the V4 Slope at the local Golf Galaxy yesterday. My logic for spending the extra on slope is other than club-up or club-down, I don't know how different slopes affect yardage. While I hope to use the V4 for a LONG time, the idea is that when it eventually needs replacing, I'll have the experience and be able to look at a slope and closer approximate adjusted yardage and can save the $100 on my next rangefinder.

Not sure that's legal for usga tournament play though.

I got a v4 non slope on Friday and played 27 holes this weekend. So far I'm not impressed. I had the v3 previously and I think it might have been better. v4 is probably faster, not that the v3 was slow, but it was struggling to pick up yardages and sometimes would give me three or four different numbers. Sometimes you get the jolt sometimes you don't. Very frustrating.

I have those issues with my tour x. Should have kept my v3...that thing was quick, simple and accurate every time.

I've never dealt with this website before so can't attest to anything about it, but I ordered my V3 Slope from them for $279.99 to my door. Supposed to ship out today so we'll see, but being optimistic.
