Which GPS watch should I buy today?

Recommended Posts

After doing hours of reading comments, I'm no further closer to pulling the trigger on one.

Here's the three features I care about:

-Distance to F/M/B, relative to position

-Hazard distances

-Dependability

What I'm looking at, without needing annual subscription, include:

-Garmin G10 $130

-Garmin S2 Approach $130

-Garmin S4 Approach $180

-Garmin S20 $200

-Bushnell Geo XS $150

-Callaway GPSY $180

-GolfBuddy WT5 $150

I plan on buying one this evening in order to receive it in time, but looking for any persuasion on which one I'd be more content about. Thanks

It depends on if you're a watch or handheld guy. Personally, I never wear a watch (golfing or otherwise) so the thought of wearing a watch while golfing made me lean towards getting the Garmin G10 handheld. The thing is tiny and seems to be exactly what I was looking for.

I was deciding between the Bushnell Ghost and G10, but ultimately went with the G10. Garmin is a known for its GPS products, so that's the direction that I leaned.

Hope this helps!

I love the GPS watch. I have had the Bushnell NEOx for 2-2 1/2 years and has never missed a beat. Battery life is outstanding, accurate, so easy to use. Zero glare, waterproof...it is a great tool for me. Quick glance and I'm good to go.

What did you get? I ordered the G10 myself.

If you must have F/M/B relative to approach angle then forget Bushnell. Bushnell uses fixed points. But the Bushnell xs has 4 hazards per hole. I have an older Neo-x (same as xs but only 2 hazards per hole) and it's great.

Garmin is F/M/B relative to approach angle, but you aren't getting preloaded hazards except for the new s20 or g10 of those you list above.

I don't wear a watch off the course, but I have no issue wearing mine when playing and in fact really miss it if I happen to forget it.

I may upgrade to a S20 this season to replace my neo-x, but will be in no rush because I like it. Whats appealing to me on the S20 is the comprehensive listing of hazards on each hole, sleek look and fitness monitor (then no need for vivofit or fitbit).

Well forget the S4 because it doesn't give you everything you want, like hazard distances, I know first hand and am bothered by it. I have a friend with a neo-xs, which was cheaper than my S4 and does everything you want. But if I have to do it all over again it looks like the S20 may be an option for me.

So in the end which one did you go with?? Any feedback yet?

I'm only familiar with the Garmin products, so I'll throw my vote in for the S20.

Provides hazard data (to hazard and to clear hazard) and is extremely reliable with FMB distances. Battery life was great too, much better than my previous S2. I had 76% battery life left after one round.

It has the ability to measure the "last shot" taken, which can be helpful.

Also has the Autoshot feature that allows you to track shots after the round. This isn't a feature I plan on using very much as I use Game Golf. You can't edit shots after the round or add putts or get into the statistics as much as Game Golf, so it won't be a substitute for that. I attached what the shot tracker looks like.

Well, I decided to upgrade from my Golf Buddy WT4, which, while a valuable tool last year, did have an unfortunate tendency to suddenly switch modes from time to time, or to forget which hole I was playing. The only cures for which were to power it off and reboot. The WT4 battery life was limited to maybe 27 holes. Its important virtue was that it did give me accurate yardages.

So I went 'all in' with Garmin's S6 Approach, that in addition to the essential of F/M/B distances from any angle, also has some swing monitoring features (Swing strength & Swing Tempo particularly) that I'm anxious to try. Beyond that there are scoring, handicapping and tracking functions and statistics I'm sure I'll play with.

Tomorrow and Thursday are forecast to be the best / warmest days of the year and I'm looking forward to see how it performs. I'd be interested in the experience of any current S6 Approach owners.

Even though I am having a few issues with the shot recording feature, I still think the Garmin S20 is the best choice. Besides the shot recording, which is unique to a golf GPS watch, the battery life is great, lightweight, thin, easily readable, fast satellite lock in, has hazard distances, step counter, and iPhone/Android connectivity. There is probably more that I have left off.

I use the older model sky caddie now but wish I had a watch.. The features I like are distance of course and a mark feature to measure distance of shots, and ability to record and upload stats such as GIR Fairways, scrambling etc.. Dont love the fee but i hate fishing around for the hand held and wish it were on a watch but dont want to splurge on the new model for 200.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
