Rant: Thieves suck...golf thieves are even worse!

Just a venting rant, and also praise for the people on this site. Yesterday, my son and I went to play a round of golf at a local course. While inside the pro shop checking in, some lowlife decided he'd help himself to my sons Cobra BioCell driver out of his bag. He discovered this when we went to load our bags on the cart. There were many people milling around waiting for their tee times, so I imagine the thief just pulled the club out of my son's bag and slipped it into his and then walked off, as no one saw it happen, and someone carrying a single club would maybe be obvious. My son was heartbroken, as this club was a gift from his grandfather for 8th grade graduation, and the blue head matched his high school team colors.

I spent the rest of the day on the course with him trying to be positive, but the lowlife thief did his damage.

Last night we searched eBay for a replacement, and I remembered about the WTB forum here on the Wrx, so I decided to give it a try. Wow! Got several responses almost immediately, and although most of the offers were either out of our budget or too much club for his game, we were both rather shocked at how people here were wanting to help. We haven't found a replacement yet, but it was nice seeing how helpful Wrx'ers are! Thanks fellas!

It's because of stories like these that I always keep my clubs in the trunk until I've paid and have the cart pulled around to the car.

Just terrible, hope you find a suitable replacement for your Son!! No replacing the sentimental value of that driver, sorry about that. Karma will indeed get the idiot that took your Son's driver. Good luck and take care!

Thanks guys! we don't usually leave clubs outta sight, in this case we had just warmed up on the range and went inside to check in. It's a "nice" golf course, no obvious low life's hanging around, but lesson learned in this case!

Palauan, you got that right about the sentimental value. My Dad got him that club, and six months later he passed away. Every time my son looked down at that club, he was reminded of him. We spent the round yesterday talking about him, both crying and laughing about our memories. He was a special man, and left a legacy that is hard to live up to, both in kindness and respectability.

Sorry for the loss of your Father, I lost mine too and I still have every golf club he's ever bought me. To look at things positively, you can now get him another driver and start making new memories with that one :) , I'm sure your Father would approve! Don't blame yourselves for leaving the clubs unattended, it could've happened to anyone unfortunately. I'm lucky I'm left handed so no use in stealing any of my clubs LOL

Just a follow up on this topic. My son played a hs match yesterday using his old R9 460, found out on the range before hand that the shaft was now way too soft for his SS, so he played the par fours and fives using his 3W, which is not his best club to say the least. Gutted it out but lost 2and1... Last night there were several messages from members on this site. One member in particular offered a brand new Blue Fly-Z+ head at an incredible price that we jumped on. So once again I must say, the people here are awesome!!

I feel your pain. Having had the same thing happen to me at my home club. Left the clubs outside the clubhouse (along with 30 other members bags) while having lunch and came out to find both my vokey wedges gone.

 

I hope the thief had fun playing with clubs 3/4 inch shorter than standard

Make sure you check your local pawn shops as well

We did file a police report, even though they took down all the info, they weren't too happy to do so. Generally gave me the attitude that they thought it was a waste of time, But I still wanted it filed. Good idea about the pawn shops too, never thought about them. I think whoever this lowlife is though, will just game the driver, to replace his Lynx BoomBoom he's had for 20+ years, LOL
