Whilst I don't shout or yell out F*************CK!!!!!! after every bad shot, I do swear a bit when I've done something particularly stupid.

In fact, I recommend it!

I always find people who never swear slightly suspicious!

Besides, swearing is surely part of the game, after all Golf is a Scottish game, and what do we do more than almost any other nationality - use obscenities!

It's the second national game. Check this clip out from the 'The Thick of it'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_7pyktzpY8

a BBC comedy show based on PR spin-doctors in Blair's government - where the have two Scottish characters who spend the entire show swearing at everyone else!

As others have said, it does depend on who your playing with, if your playing with friends I'll spend more time laughing at bad shots than swearing at myself. But in any event, you have to be courteous to those around you, don't ruin someone else's day just because your making an arse of your round.

Shouting out expletives is a no-no for me, but a few muttered oaths are OK... well, regular, for me.

I agree with an above poster that I have a deep distrust of people who never swear.

People who don't swear are like people who don't own televisions in my book...

Would it make any difference if there was a lady in your group you had never met before?

Would it influence your speech one way or the other if she was losing, winning or tied with you?

Certain words spoken in frustration do have a calming effect I suppose and many times can lighten the mood & break the ice in

a pick-up foursome if spoken in a somewhat light hearted manner.

But out and out profanity regardless of the situation on a golf course

with anyone within ear shot seems a bit out of place to me.

Ciao, Wan

i only swear when im playing a round with friends and we are messing around, never in compitition, no need for it. if i hit a bad shot, i just think, its golf, ur going to hit one bad shot here and there, we arent pros yet

on the tiger swearing, today during the final round of the pga, he very clearly said dam*it after a bad tee shot. he didnt yell it, he just said as he went to pick up his tee, but you could very clearly hear it

If I see a bad shot on the rise, I'll say "ah h-e-double hockey sticks" which is probably followed by "FORE!" or me cussing myself out silently (in me mind) and then go on and hit a hero shot (don't ask how... just happens).

Swearing off a bad situation on the golf course is fairly common and accepted, however, I don't want to play with anyone just let it fly all the time.

I'll either let him know this is getting to far, or tell him to stop or leave our group.

I'll stay away from those that did not know the limit, just like I'll stay away from those that had no control of their behavior driving on roadway.

Was playing in our section meet for high school. The team that wins goes to state. We win by 1, but we have to add on a 2 stroke penalty because someone on my team said "damn" on the course. I was so pissed. I dont know if you guys have a 2 stroke swearing penalty where you guys are from but anyways, no one usually ever calls it. And how is saying "damn" defacing the golf course? I think the rule is ridiculous. Golf is just another sport, and swearing in moderation should be tolerated. People think golfers are all gentelmen. You can swear as much as you want in most sports, but not golf. anyways, we didn't go to state because of this one incident.

I have to admit that I swear when I am on the course; however, I make ssure that I am the only one that can hear it.

Even the best players in the world cuss though. I played with a tour professional a couple weeeks ago and on the second hole they pulled their tee shot into the left trees. Guess what came out of their mouth??? (and it wasn't "Oh, that was unfortunate!")

usually i dont cuss too much... im a 15 handicap so i know im not gonna be able to hit a perfect shot every time...

but sometimes when i keep hitting the same bad shot over and over and i know i can hit the shot any other time perfectly im more of a club thrower... which i need to stop doing because now i have to reshaft my 3wood because i actually broke it 2 days ago after blocking it ob off tthe tee... so now i gotta spend money i dont have and i need new irons so this just sets me back more haha

My husband and I were walking with my son two weeks ago and he hit a real bad shot trying to re-coup his first one and we heard a little bit of the F word. He is 14 and I had NEVER heard that before from him...it was meant just for him to hear but just a little loud enough the we did too. My husband and I actually just grinned at each other and shrugged...what are you gonna do. Get in his a** at a tourney when he is already feeling like poop? He ended up with a double bogey so we figured that is enough punishment right there. We mentioned it to him on the way home...he just looked at us like, "Dag you heard me!" He did end up coming in 2nd so it worked out in the end.

Funny story: I used to swear so to make it less noticeable I would learn a couple of swear words in other languages and blurt it out, I would get my stress relief and no one would know the difference. So I thought. A couple years ago I was playing and hit a couple of bad shots in a a row so i dropped a swear word in Turkish that was taught to me by a friend. So as usual I blurted it out and moved on as I was leaving the course one of the guys I was playing with whom I did not know came up to me and told me to keep that kind of talk to myself and there is no place in golf for that kind of language. So I went back to swearing in english.

I swear when I'm joking with whoever I play with and when I'm angry. like, if i hit a big ol' slice with the d-dog (i usually hook it if anything), I'll drop the club down and exclaim, "What the f@$& was THAT!?!"

If you don't swear in front of me first, you won't hear me swear at all. I like to let the other guy make the first move. If a lady is involved.. No cussing.. even if she has a dirty whorish mouth. I have been known to let out a nice long loud "F*******************K!" after a tee shot and my favorite on the green is, "You dirty f*****g whore!" Threw a brand new D2 once, too. Scratched and gouged it all to hell as it skipped down the cartpath. I was so embarrased I left the course. Lesson learned.. No more throwing clubs.
