What Do these Numbers Say About the Type of Shaft and Lofts I need?

This is a 7 iron Taylormade rsi with stiff KBS shafts.

 

I currently play Nike VR pro blades with r300 shafts and half an inch short. I feel they are way too short for me and not quite right. I purchased them used and I believe the previous owner increased the lofts.

 

I'm thinking about switching to a stiffer shaft and an iron with lower launch profiles.

 

Swing wise I get solid compression and forward shaft lean, divot after ball etc.

 

I've been golfing for a little under 2 years so I'm new to some of the terminology: what do these numbers imply about my swing? What is deviation? I only hit about 3 shots on this screen.

Deviation is the spread among the shots that you hit. With it being 40 yards, I would guess that you missed the one or two before this one. For a 7I to roll out this much seems odd also. I would go back to the store and make sure they had the monitor set for an iron vs. a driver. Something just doesn't look correct. Find a good fitter and make sure you know what you want to get out of the fitting experience. Good Luck!

If youre launching a 7 iron 22 degrees you most certainly do not have shaft lean. You looking for equipment to lower your ball flight will do nothing for you. You flip and add loft at impact no equipment will fix that. You're also on a cheap terrible launch monitor that carries zero credibility.

Keep in mind, w/o knowing the specific launch monitor used, we have no idea which numbers to pay attention to and which to ignore. You can't always trust all the data that they show. Also it's important to track face impact location on the strikes., the quality of the strikes are just as important as the numbers. Even the ball used can potentially make a difference.

 

Numbers from a single shaft option don't tell you anything about what shaft you may need or might be a good fit. There are no ideal numbers - it's all a matter of relative performance between different options. So to determine that, you have to hit multiple different shafts and compare the numbers you get between the different options. The shaft that gives the better results (with irons, we want to look more at consistency and accuracy and the quality of the strike more than just distance). Same applies to almost all other fitting specs such as grip size, swing weight, playing length, etc..

 

As far as loft goes, once you get all other aspects of the fitting nailed down, that's the time to worry about loft, not initially. Only then can it be used to tweak yardage gaps and spin (basically balance the trade off between distance vs decent angle or stopping power).
