Bushnell Tour X or Leupold Gx-4Ia2

I need to upgrade my old Bushnell rangefinder and am looking at the high-end models from both Bushnell and Leupold. I've held both in a store but haven't used them on the course. I prefer the heft of the Leupold and have read great things about their customer service but it is $499 on Amazon, while the Bushnell is only $344. Has anyone used both on the course and would there be any reason to pay $155 more for the Leupold? Thanks!

As an update, I found the Leupold for $400 so now it's only a $55 difference.

Get the Leupold. The Bushnell is a fantastic unit as well. But for the price difference, you'll never be otherwise satisfied.

I bought the Tour X... for 340 bux, I know it was a solid purchase. I have played with people that have both, and both people were satisfied. but the two people that have the Bushnell with Slope, acutally talk about how much they like it. The leopold people, although there are more of them, just say it "works good"

 

and I love the whole jolt thing... i have shaky hands. I sent a el cheapo unit back via amazon several months ago, because I could never get it to get what I was comfortable with a lock on a target, and I never really trusted the slope rating I was given.

 

I got it Wednesday, so my first round with it will be in the morning, but if I can figure out the thing, I know it will be a great purchase.

 

I want to get one of the mounts for the windshield column, but i decided to wait

I own a Leupold GX-3i2. Works great even with shaky hands.

Tried both out at a Golfsmith. Liked the Leupold a lot more but they didn't have it in stock and weren't ordering any new inventory because of the bankruptcy proceedings, so I ordered it online. Should be here Tuesday. Thanks for the help!

One difference - the change of the faceplate on the Bushneel makes it "tournament legal". The leupold isn't tournament legal, and the yellow thing is just a "cover" for the slope technology.

This is incorrect.

 

The original Gx-4i was not deemed legal. With the 'squared' model, they moved the actual slope technology into the faceplate. It's legal.

I have a handful of rounds on my Bushnell Tour X. for someone with Shaky hands, its perfect. I actually can get yardages. I have never had any luck with rangefinders in the past due to my unsteadiness.. No longer a problem. I got the tour X because I wanted the slope. I play pretty much at the same club all the time. So I like to be able to get true distances so that when its tournament time, I have an idea what they will be when I have the Slope mode turned off. I like the changeable faceplate because it allows you to see that i or someone else is using the correct mode. There will always be someone that tries to get "one over" on the tournament, i am sure this is no exception. I mean if a guy will pad his handicap all year so he can show up as a 17 and then shoot 72/71 to win, then using the wrong mode would be nothing.

I have the jolt 7 and the optics are brilliant. I like the x7 optics for older eyes. Its really accurate. I am a retired scientist and I worked on a project where we used

a $20,000 army range finder, and this Bushnell is very close 20 years later.
