Need Help with Driver shaft recommendation

Recommended Posts

So I am currently gaming a Nike Vr Pro limited edition 10.5 driver with stock diamana ahina stiff shaft. I play well with it. Good drives go between 260-270.

I recently picked up a Nike vapor speed TW edition driver 10.5 with diamana blueboard stiff shaft. I love the look, feel, and sound of this driver. It just seems like it's about 20 yards shorter. Might not be exact haven't really had a chance to hit them side by side. It just seems like I don't have enough swing speed to get enough out of the blueboard. I would love to get fit for a shaft but the closest reputable fitter to me is over a hour away. Should I just try getting another bluebird in a regular flex?

Impossible to tell what the true cause is for the difference without a lot more information. We would need all the specs of both drivers (playing length, shaft weight, swing weight, actual loft, etc..) and would ideally need accurate LM numbers from a side by side test. Is the distance loss really as much as you think, is it from a drop in club head speed or only ball speed, is it a result of different launch angle or spin - or combination of all those. Sorry, just too many possibilities to even begin to guess.

The only thing I will say is that the ahina has a stiffer profile than the blueboard. So if you play the ahina in stiff with better results, it's unlikely that the blueboard is too stiff for you so I don't see much point in going down to a reg flex in the blueboard.

Thank you for replying. I agree with what you are saying. Definitely going to need to get to a launch monitor. The ahina on the vr pro limited is a made for Nike shaft so to me it is a little softer of shaft. The vr pro is 45.75 inches long. The vapor speed tw is 45. From manufacturers spec the vr pro limited is D3-5. The vapor speed tw is D2.5.

If you like the ahina profile (although not sure on the made for stuff) I can see why you aren't getting the same out if the blueboard. 2 different bend profiles. You depend on the feel you get from the shaft for timing and tempo. The butt stiff mid soft shafts like the blueboard don't work for me either. I'd have to completely change my swing to get the most out of them.

When you don't feel what you expect you aren't able to produce the speed at the right time.

I say just pull the ahina and put it in the vapor speed.
