Possible stress fracture in foot

Hurt my foot over the weekend. Could barely walk Sunday night and monday and started to get some bruising. I started feeling better late Monday and went out for a round of golf which went well. Came home, took my shoes off, made a wrong step, and felt the pain all over again and could barely walk.

Tuesday I go to the doc, she suspects a stress fracture of the 5th metatarsal and sends me for XRays. Today i feel better again...no discernible pain. I'm waiting to hear word on the XRay results.

My brother had a stress fracture in his foot a few years ago. The first xray was negative but several weeks later it showed a fracture. My question for you guys, if my results are negative, would you insist on an MRI to verify? My concern would be resuming activity and creating a more severe injury.

The good news is that I can play golf on it with no problem :)

I would ask for one. I had a stress fracture many years ago that didn't show on an X-ray. I walked around on it two more weeks and it just got worse. Still was negative on the X-ray so I insisted on the mri and that showed it. They put a cast on it for 3 weeks and I was fine. I was still able to golf in the cast so it wasn't that bad.

Yep get it checked. Fully.

You can get new shoes but you cannot get new feet.

Agree with MRI and get your foot in a walking boot.

Thanks all for the advice. The X-rays were negative as expected. My foot is still bruised up but felt a good bit better today. I know if I hit that spot though all bets are off. I'm going to let it go for a couple of days to see if there is any more pain. At the first sign I think I'll call back to request an MRI.

I'm just getting over a hairline fracture in my heel, parallel to my Achilles' tendon. The pain was unimaginable! I went through two or three "flare ups" before I went and got it checked out. When it did flare up, I couldn't put any pressure on my foot. And by any pressure, I mean I even had to sleep with my foot out of the blanket at night because the weight of the blanket was too much. My doctor recommended 2 weeks off of it. My fiancé is a nurse in post anesthesia and knows all of the surgeons at her hospital, and an ortho told her 2 weeks wasn't enough, so I just spent 2 weeks on crutches and 2 weeks in a walking boot. Today is my first day out of the boot and I'm about to head to the course.

Do what you need to go get it properly checked out.
