Absolute steal!! Just tell her it's an investment for the future. When your current irons wear out, you have a nice set sitting there ready for use, and you won't have to go out and spend $1000+ for a new set.

I understand what the OP means by his wife let him.

I make the living and can buy whatever I want and she's even said that. But if it's a large enough purchase, I still give her the respect to talk to her about it.

That being said, I've never told her no to anything she wants.

Reminds me of a golf bag i paid for a few weeks ago. I asked for tracking and the guy says his wife is furious that he is selling the bag and that I will be refunded. Since when do golf ho's listen to their wives? ��

 

Sounds like he got a better offer, local offer. Terrible excuse. Why would a wife be pissed that he's selling a golf bag.

 

The seller didn't get a better offer. It was an honest "mistake," all the way around.

This reminds me of when I saw a set of MP5s for sale at Golfsmith for $250 (it was the 5-9 irons only so they had been sitting in the used section even as it got to 70% off). I went home and mentioned to my wife that I passed on a really good deal in the bowels of Golfsmith. There was a weird silence, then she looked at me and said, "So, how long until you end up buying them?" A few days later the 5-7 irons were in my bag and the 8-9 were in my overflow.

The moral is this: We're not talking about a girlfriend or even a fiancée. Your wife, like mine and countless others who are married to people on WRX, knew what they were getting into when they said, "I do." If you really think she expected you to turn around and flip the 59s, you're kidding yourself. Enjoy your clubs and buy her something nice. Everybody wins.

I guess that depends on whether or not your credit card bill is exploding at the moment. There's a difference between throwing money around recklessly and canceling out the occasional club ho impulse purchase with something like earrings.

What are you talking about? I'm saying I don't want to sell my current irons because she bought them for me. The only person getting lied to is you by that voice in your head telling you you're funny or convincing you that it was a good idea to send that response. Me not wanting to sell something golf related that I originally intended on selling until I physically had them in my hands and saw how beautiful they were and then posting about it on WRX because I know I'm not the first to encounter this problem. Then Dr Phil comes out of left field on his moral high horse telling me that my wife is an amazing women because she she bought me what I wanted 4 years ago (She is amazing but this is hardly a reason to assume someone is amazing) And I now have ZERO conscience because I don't want to sell the irons that my wife bought me 4 years ago (which you clearly misunderstood) and I'm still confused where in this whole story I lied to her but I'm sure you will fill me in unfortunately

He bought the clubs and left them in the trunk. A couple of days later he went to the mall with his son and someone broke into the car and stole the clubs. So, now he had the bill and no clubs. 6 weeks later is his birthday and his wife gives him a present..... a set of clubs just like the ones he had bought! He was speechless. He asked her "where did you get these clubs?" and she replied "out of your trunk!" Talk about a cold wife who kept that under wraps for 6 weeks! Turns out the son had ratted him out.
