My old college roomate and I are playing in a VSGA one-day event there in July, mostly because he lives in Williamsburg, I'm in NOVA, and it's about a half-way point between us (and the date worked out for us both). We've never played it, and doubt we'll be able to get a practice round in before, anyone familiar with the course that could lend some advice for first timers? Any lay-up holes, or places you just can't miss it in? Any help would be welcomed, I hate playing a tournament blind, but this is as much for fun and being able to see my buddy than anything, but we've heard good things about the course and we're looking forward to playing it. Yeah know a few older members who have left to join other clubs bc of that. It has been bought and sold twice I believe in the last few years

I recently joined, so lets see what kind of info I can give you!

 

They JUST got a new superintendent that's doing well to get the course back in to shape, but there are still some areas that are still getting there. The overall layout is very playable and you won't be punished too badly if you miss the fairway; the rough isn't too thick.

 

A few helpful hints for holes:

Hole 2: Cut over the left side of the trap and you'll be in good shape to place an approach well.

Hole 4: 3-shot par 5. Try to place your drive mid-left fairway and it'll help you set up the 2nd shot. If you get too far to the right of the fairway, it makes it tough to get your approach in a good place.

Hole 7: risk/reward with cutting the corner and missing left isn't ideal.

Hole 8: be prepped for a long 2nd shot.

Hole 12: a lot like hole 2. Go over the left portion of the bunker and it should roll out a bit and have downhill 2nd.

Hole 14: Don't lose it right, there's a hill that sucks. 2 tiered green, so check the pin-sheet.

Hole 15: DO IT! You can carry it to the green!

Hole 18: Driver aimed at the right edge of the bunk should be good. 2 tiered green that plays a factor.

 

If you eat there, check out the avocado fries as an app, it's a good post-round snack!
