Golfer's Elbow - Oooooouch!

Shafts or just my puny physique?

Hi All

I've been experiencing Golfer's Elbow for the past 8 months or so and it appears to be related to my irons. I play MacGregor 1025cm's (the ones on my Avatar) with Rifle Flighted 6.0 shafts. These are quite heavy and seemed to be aggravating the problem.

With this in mind I bought a set of MX-20's with Rifle 5.5's (not flighted) my thought process being:

Softer shafts + lighter overall weight = higher clubhead speed + less pain

Now, this seemed to make perfect sense and what's more, gave me a good excuse to buy some clubs (To wife: 'It's for the good of my health dear.......') BUT the MX-20's did not behave as expected.

The 5.5's felt stiffer and harsher than the 6's. The overall weight of the club was lighter than the Macs but I couldn't turn the clubhead over to save my life - high push every time.
On the positive side my elbow felt great!

I've gone back to the Macs which give me a tight, penetrating draw and lower short irons, but I'm waiting for the pain to return.

Two questions for you:

1. Did the Mizunos play stiffer because of lower head weight, or are the Mac Rifles a different flex to standard - I know they only released these clubs with 5's or 6's?

2. Anyone know of a good cure for Golfer's Elbow???????

Stretching the tendons in my elbow helped any problems I had in it go away. Now I don't know if it was exactly golfers elbow but I had a sharp pain in my right elbow, and I'm a rightie.

 

I would stick my hand on the wall with my fingers pointing up, palm open and stretch out my elbow, then turn my hand 90 degrees clockwise and do the same. After a while of doing that it had disappeared and never came back.

If you use a carry bag, and lift it onto your back with your right arm and your right arm is the bad one, it may be the way you pick up your bag between shots. This happened to me.

Worth a shot in sharing my experience, anyway it happens thougg it is a painful injury. Don't be afraid to see an orthopedic if it keeps up for more than a week or two. A little physical therapy goes a long way in both treating and preventing future occurances. Good Luck and let us know how you make out.

I have the left elbow problem after too much practice... I like the wall stretch, doing wrist stretches before I hit and RICE:

 

Rest

Ice

Compression

Elevation

 

... and gin.... with tonic...

You gotta give it some rest so it has time to heal. Stretches are awesome, espically so it dosent happen again.

 

I had it once from golf in my left, and so bad in my right I had to quit playing baseball.

 

PM if you want to know more, and PS - I seriously doubt it is your clubs....but if thats what you want to tell your wife...thats your business.
