Walking with Push Cart in Texas

Can anyone tell me what the situation is in Tarrant County area of DFW, Texas on Public courses as pertains to walking the course with a push cart? I live on Long Island, NY and will be moving to Texas in 1 month. What I have gleaned through phone calls to different courses is; They appear to discourage or do not like or permit walking on Texas courses. Texas Star told me that they will allow walking but only with one of their walking carts. When I asked what kind of carts they were, Push (Like my Sunmountain) or 2 wheel pull, the Desk Guy didn't even know, which told me that walkers are rare. I am very surprised about this as walking is very popular on Long Island public courses. Any help would be appreciated if there are any Texas guys on the forum. Thanks.

I play pretty much all my golf on the Ft. Worth municipal courses. Walking and pull/push carts are not an issue and they are all pretty easy to walk. Can't really help you with the other municipal or daily fee courses. Hopefully you will get some additional comments from others that play a wider range of courses in the area.

I've lived in Texas my entire life and obviously played most of my golf here. I have NEVER heard of a course not allowing or discouraging walking. I will say that at almost courses the majority of players do ride and that is because of the Texas summer weather. You will see when you move here! Lol. Have fun walking! Drink a bunch of water!

I walk all winter and when it's path only. Never had an issue however was asked at one club to use their cart (so they could charge me) and had to buy my cart from a list of specific ones at my new place. I wouldn't walk in the summer but know quite a few people who do... until about 13 holes in, then they jump in.

There is only one or two courses in Dallas that do not allow push carts. I beleive Dallas National and Triinity Forrest (not sure). Dallas National allows walking. Go figure.

The thread pertains to public courses, however I'd add Brook Hollow Golf Club to the push carts prohibited list.

I haven't heard that before and I've lived here and walked courses for decades.

If they discourage walking it's likely 1) they want the revenue 2) wrong associate walking with slow play

I walk a lot in the DFW area. Texas Star is a great track but there are a couple of longer walks on the back 9 between holes (doable for sure). Trinity allows walking provides pushcarts and does not allow carts. No cart paths there. Great track if you can get on. I often walk at Tenison, Stevens.

Lots of great info, however you are incorrect about Trinity Forest. They do allow carts in the afternoon and for special events. They also have cart paths, they are crushed rock/hardpan, not the typical concrete (and they will never have that).

Thanks to everyone who posted a comment. I am here and I am learning! Weather, traffic, and golf courses are different from what I am used to, but golfers are the same that I am used to. From my perspective and experience, 99% of the golfers that I have met and played a round with have been friendly and pleasant. Obviously this is part of the reason that golf is my passion.

Well after being here in Texas since June, I've settled in at Bear Creek Golf Club in Euless, TX for my home course. Its a very active, well run, well maintained golf club with something going on all the time. Tournaments, Outings, Events, parties, Etc. Nice atmosphere for a golfer! My apartment is 2 miles from the golf course and 3 miles from my Son's home in Colleyville. Bear Creek has two 18 hole courses and I get a very good senior rate for 18 holes with a riding cart M-F. Summer heat is no problem because its dry heat and I get a riding cart now. I can play year round now so once a week will keep me around my average of 50 rounds a year which is where I want to be at age 76. My index was 11 from the middle Tee Box when I got here but that has risen to a 14 because of being unfamiliar with the two new courses. Still keeping it in the short grass with a very nice controlled game so I'm not complaining. I worked hard for 42 years to get this and I'm going to enjoy it while I can! :good:

Glad you are enjoying your time in Texas. When I used to live there walking wasn't an issue at most courses. I will say that Texas Star would be a tough walking course with elevation changes (rare in North Texas). Cowboys would be another one tough to walk, but that is because of some long walks between holes. Around you, Sky Creek, Bear Creek (where you play), Iron Horse, Grapevine, Indian Creek where all accommodating to walkers.
