If you want to travel about 40 minutes away go to Falmouth Country Club in East Falmouth. I went there last week on vacation and it was quite nice. I played with my dad and his friend and they have a deal where kids under 16 or something get to play free on the nine hole course they have there if the adult pays.

 

If you play after 2pm it's $36.00 for 18 holes and a cart. Fantastic deal in my opinion.

Also, Ballymeade is supposed to be one of the best courses around although it's more expensive.

Bass River is in West Yarmouth and its a real fun layout. Its not that long, but it has very interesting holes. I've always enjoyed it. Its also has nice views of the rivers on a few of the holes on the front. Bay Berry is also in Yarmouth and it's also a very nice course. One of the best on the cape imo.

Both Bass River and Bayberry are my home courses.

Bass River is quirky, but it's one of those courses you have to play at least once.

Bayberry's greens aren't great, and in the summer I believe they get $85-90 with a cart, not a great deal.

Ballymeade is a very nice layout, or Old Barnstable is a fun track.

Here are three challenging courses you can play...

 

Bayberry Hills ~ Yarmouth, MA Gold / 7172 yards 73.4 rating 125 slope

 

Bayberry Hills consists of 3 nines, the Red, White and Blue. The original layout is the Red and White which provides a championship layout with tree lined fairways, large greens, fairways and bunkers. The greens are at their best in late spring and during the mornings. If your not hitting the ball solidly the course main defense will be evident, its length.

 

Notables:

1st hole par 4 445 yards ~ The first hole establishes quickly which tees you should be playing and like many Cape Cod courses the wind is always a factor hopefully it won't be against you on the opening tee shot.

 

15th hole par 5 533 yards ~ The 15th is unique as you are given the option on your second shot to go straight at the hole down a narrow shoot (main purpose hitting the green in two) or play the hole as a dog-leg. A true risk reward hole.

 

17th hole par 3 241 yards ~ The 17th has the potential to play 270 yards as the marker is measured on the front of the tee box and the green is long and narrow surrounded by two bunkers.

 

 

Ballymeade ~ Falmouth, MA Green / 6928 yards 74.7 rating 141 slope

 

Ballymeade is loved by few and hated by most but everyone will agree the conditions are superb. The course requires precision and the greens are quick and undulated. Many of the holes are memorable and don't mirror each other or a hole you may have ever played before. The first time you play Ballymeade you most likely will not shoot your lowest score.

 

Notables:

9th hole par 4 420 yards ~ The tee shot needs to be straight down a narrow fairway. It is important to hit the fairway as your second shot will be over water with no bail out room.

 

18th hole par 5 581 yards ~ This long uphill dog-leg right will not be reached in two by the majority as the last 100 yards to the green is over water.

 

Dennis Pines ~ Dennis, MA Gold / 7000 yards 74.6 rating 135

 

Many believe Dennis Pines is the toughest course on Cape Cod. The Pines main challenge is the tee ball. Not only are the fairways small but your tee shot is running across them unless you can work the ball with the hole. The course only provides a few yards of rough before you reach the trees and once your in the trees at the Pines your jail mate. The course will have you hit every club in your bag and provides four holes with water in play on the back nine.

 

Notables:

3rd hole par 5 486 yards ~ A short dog-leg right par five early in the round that gives you a great chance to reach the two tier green in two. I would strongly recommend playing this hole as a 3 shot hole as its a tease.

 

8th hole par 4 492 yards ~ The toughest hole on the course as its creeps slowly uphill and is relatively straight. Their is no cheating the distance on this hole and will require 4 solid shots.

 

17 hole par 3 208 yards ~ Maybe one of the most scenic and natural par 3's in all of New England.
