Best serious golf movie

Bagger Vance was an outstanding book. I found the movie unwatchable. Seems I heard when producers were shopping it for actors that Matthew McConaughey wanted the lead role, but only if they could get Morgan Freeman to play Vance. Sadly, it didn't happen and we were left with Damon & Smith.

 

Dead Solid Perfect gets my vote, too.

Follow the Sun I thought Glenn Ford was excellent as Hogan.

 

Had heard this was good. Found it in pieces on YouTube but couldn't find the ending. Drats!

Meh re bagger, reminds me of a river runs through it or the like with all the narration, doesn't make it real, its.fiction...nice they put in some interesting golf characters, but I liked greatest game more, way cooler story and it's a real story. Lebouf was solid, Eddie Lowerys character was good, Stephen Dillane as Vardon was good, Ted Rey,s character was good..and a lot more character actors doing a good job.

 

Golf does not make for an interesting movie IMO, but i hope they keep trying.

I lean toward the Legend of Bagger Vance. While I like Will Smith movies, I always thought that Morgan Freeman would have been a better Bagger Vance. Also the movie expanded the love interest over that reflected in the book.

 

May I also suggest: "Seven Days in Utopia" and "A Gentleman's Game".

 

I couldn't stand "7 Days in Utopia". Aside from the poor acting, I had a real problem with the movie makers not knowing that an anchored chest putter isn't used to face the hole and that you're not allowed to bring a spare putter along just in case you really need it for your dramatic last putt.
