Garland Resort

Has anyone been to this resort in the last year? My group of 24 used to go there but haven't been in the last 3 years. Some of the guys were asking about going back in 2018. Thanks in advance.

I haven't, but was talking to a member at my club who was with a group of 48 guys. I'm sure the free flowing booze helped, but he had pretty positive things to say.

 

Most importantly, it sounds as though they have backtracked from the asinine idea of making Fountains, their best course, members-only. He said they got to play it while they were there.

I used to be the assistant pro there....if you haven't played fountains, you aren't missing much in my opinion.....Monarch and Swampfire are way better.....and for a shorter course, I like Reflections quite a bit as well minus a couple holes.

 

Originally, it was promised to purchasers of lots that they would have a private members only course and they were supposed to build a 5th course....They ended up building a few holes but I can't remember exactly what happened and the project fell through. As a result, they were facing lawsuits over the issue since the course never came about and they decided to make Fountains the private course to alleviate the lawsuits....Once the new ownership took over from the Otto family, they started running it more like an actual resort instead of a family business and things are shaping up better now.

I've played there on trips every year the last few falls and it is always in good shape. For a challenging, fun and versatile round with lots of water coming into play I'd suggest Swampfire, for more of a tournament style course and setup I'd suggest Monarch. I have never played Fountains but I would pass on Reflections for other courses in the Mecca for a handful of personal reasons.
