moving to area, need some advice

Hey Guys

I'm moving to the Sacramento area in a few weeks and will be a complete stranger to the city. I'll be studying at the Pacific Uni for my LL.M.

Any advice on local golf courses and things to do would be awesome. Better still, if any guys want to meet up and play a few, get in touch.

I live in the Area....When you mention Pacific University is that UOP in Stockton?....There are a ton of courses in the area and I dare say a few Wrxers as well....Once you get here send me a pm...I'd be glad to tee it up.....

2. Lockeford Springs in Lodi (8 miles north east).

3. Manteca Municipal in manteca (8 miles south

The 2 munis in stockton are ok, but you better be packin'

You can add Dry Creek (Galt) and Micke Grove (Lodi) as 2 other public tracks that are pretty close...Castle Oaks in Ione is a little more upscale and is pretty close as well....

Stockton can be a rough city in some parts. I always wonder why the police and fire station downtown have razor wire on their fences! The area around the University of Pacific is good when its daylight but after hours different story.

Also worth driving to that are in the area: Saddle Creek in Copperopolis, Stevinson Ranch in Stevinson, Diablo Grande in Patterson.

Obviously a reference to Swenson Park and Van Buskirk......Swenson is actually not that bad...Van Buskirk on the other hand is in the middle of the hood.....Used to play there quite a bit but don't even think about it anymore....Guys being robbed at gunpoint on the golf course, cars jacked from the parking lot, etc.....Last I heard the pro shop guys even bug out of there way early in the day....

All of the above is good advice. UOP you'll be fine during the day, even evenings. Well worth it for the education though... top notch.

Hairpie has it right. Avoid Van Buskirk. I have played there 2 times in the last 2 years. its interesting playing the back nine, never got farther than 5 yds away from the cart in case I needed to bolt!! LOL

and yes Galt is a GREAT course... but its about 1/2 hour away. let us know when you settle in and we'll try and hook up for a round.
