Samoset Resort

Anyone played there?

I am going away this weekend to the Samoset Resort in Maine. I will be playing there on Saturday and wanted to know if anyone had played there before. Based on a review of their web-site it looks like it is not an overly long course, but that there is an awful lot of water in play. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Used to live in Maine...played there many times but years ago.

 

Like any course, it depends on the tees. The back tees make it a fun test but not overly hard. Many holes you do not need your driver and can only get in trouble using it. Look at the yardage on each hole...if it is less than 375 yds, hit something less. Only 1 drivable par 4 as I recall and using the driver does not put you at any advantage and can only lead to trouble. Good length par 3's over water...keep it away from the ocean no matter where the pin rests.

 

You can go to Samoset.com and print out a yardage book shot of each hole...plan your round out accordingly. The course is one of the most beautiful that you will play. Was told that there are more holes along the ocean than even Pebble Beach.

Like the others said. Samoset is not an overly difficult course, but it is one of the more visually stunning courses you can play in the new england area! You'll have a wonderful time.

I would agree that Samoset is not overly difficult. But it isn't easy. I would simply call it playable. It is a lot of fun. The views are great, you will be able to see why the course has been referred to as the Pebble Beach of the East. It doesn't have classic golf holes that Pebble does but the views from the course are almost as good. I don't know what the green fees are but I would be surprised if they are over $100.

 

If you are in the area and looking to play golf, this is your course, without a doubt. A must play over anything else within a hour drive or so, I would say.

Be prepared for a surprise then. :) $110 in mid-season, and only if you stay at the resort. Expect that rate to jump $10-20/person if you just want to golf there.
