Any Pros Using Mid Size Grips

Are there any guys out on tour using mid size grips? It seems like most guys build up traditional grips with more tape? Any reason why? Thanks.

I would imagine that there are a lot more than any of us realize. There are a lot of build-up grips because of the people that hit +3, +2, etc. It is a lot more exact of a science for them than it is for us hackers.

the grip is the only part of the body that touches the club...much like the tires in a car.

the fit has to be right..or else you just add another variable which could go wrong.

am not surprised that many pros will custom fit their grips if needed..

and some are just lucky that standard sizes fit them well..

to each his own..

PS: due to smallish hands i need undersize grips and always have some on hand for new purchases...

i just cannot hit well with standard sized ones..

For us amateurs, it is a huge benefit for those who actually know their grip size. There are a lot of people that get fit for clubs and then just throw on the grips that they like. In a lot of cases, these grips could potentially be the wrong size. The whole fitting, which is great to get can be not as effective d/t the wrong grips causing a grip that is too tight for release or a grip too light for proper release. Impact, ball flight, distance, speed, etc. starts with the grip.

Building up makes the grips firmer, which means less squishing when transitioning/releasing. I switched from DTXs to Ace 3GEN Midsizes because of this.

Also, buildup is necessary to make grips feel constant across the set. My SLDR shaft had a .630 butt while my irons are .580, so in order to get them similar I had to build up the irons a ton. Not sure how much affect lie angle has on ideal grip size, but I've gone uniform across the set for now.

I never thought about that!! I have heard of several pros adding wraps under just the bottom hand too.
