Which do you prefer? 983K vs 983E

I think everyone at one point had to make a decision between these two and I'm curious why you went with one over the other. We all know the 983K is 15cc bigger with a higher launch and spin with a draw bias. But does it have a closed face or is there just more weight in the heel? How does the spin compare to newer drivers? The E only looks as big as the J, but with its deeper face, is it more forgiving than the K?

I'm a low ball hitter that doesn't put a whole bunch of spin on my drives. With the 983E's I hit nothing but low knuckleballs. Same with the R7 even with a 10.5* loft. ~95-100mpg swing speed with somethat will trickle into the 105's... I just wasn't man enough to consistently get the height and trajectory I needed with the E.

I chose the 983E because I like the deeper face and it does not look like I have VW bug at the end of my shaft. I went from a 9.5* 975J-VS to the 10.5* 983E, both with a GD YS-6 stiff shaft.

I absolutely love the E I just got......2nd hand for under $75. Love the feel and sound of it, although I gotta get it reshafted. It has a Bimatrix Xstiff in it now, and it's like rebar. Last time I hit the Bi shaft was in a Ping Tisec head that I murdered, but in the Titleist bore it's just way too much. If I give it the ole "steroid jerk" I can bomb it, but that gets tiring after awhile.

I'm a pretty low SS player so need the shallow face and additional spin the K provides. To my eye it sets up square, but the K's do have a slight heel-weighted bias.

 

I tried an E once in 8.5* with a stiff Speeder that was so ridiculously cheap I had to try it. Low knuckles that went no where. Pretty much what I expected but I traded it in somewhere else for virtually no loss.

 

I wish someone made a 460cc driver that had the solid weight/balance of a K/E. All the bigger drivers just seem to have no weight.

I absolutley loved my E...I've spent the last year trying to find something that even compares. I played an 8.5 w/ Aldila NV 75X. My playing partners refered to it as the "Hammer of the Gods" and began singing the Immigrant Song whenever I pulled it out the bag....it was that long.

 

I tried a 905s, 454, r7, and then back to 905s. The audition continues with the 905S w/V2....still not the E

 

Maybe I just need to call off the search and go back to the E...problem is I feel like I'm fighting progress.

The best driver I ever owned was a 983E shafted with a Fuji 757 X-Flex. I hit bombs with it every time. With a 115mph SS I was getting upwards of 175mph BS. The spin rate was perfect for me about 3000 rpm and a launch of 12*. For some odd reason I went and sold the driver and I am still trying to figure out why. Now that they are so cheap I may have to get another one. :pimp:
