Ajay used to make a weighted headcover and they weren't trying to hide it. Legal or not legal to swing a driver with this on it during a round?

First, I think it's wonderful that they promise that I can swing like a top pro instead of some ordinary millionaire pro.

Second, I'd view that as illegal to use during a round.

I agree that it would be a really aggressive play to use some gorilla glue to paste a weighted donut into the end of a head cover.

Also aggressive to ask Juju or other custom head cover maker to sew a donut into the liner.

But if you go to the maker and say, "I want a really solid head cover, one that's really heavy, maybe with a lead liner in there." I can't say that's against the rules - there are no weight expectations on head covers.

I would view that "add some lead" as unusual. While there are no weight requirements for head covers, I still think that this would be illegal. The phrase "unusual equipment" is broad, as Stuart points out, for a reason.

But while reasonable people may disagree on whether it's legal or not, reasonable people might agree that it's not worth the risk of a 2sp or DQ.

Or I guess we could just read the rulebook/decisions for once...:

14-3/10

Use of Training or Swing Aid During Round

Q.During a round, may a player make a stroke or a practice swing using a club with a weighted headcover or "doughnut" on it, or use any other device designed as a training or swing aid?

A.No. The player would be using an artificial device to assist him in his play in breach of Rule 14-3, but see also Decision 4-4a/7 for use of a weighted training club.

4-4a/7

Carrying Weighted Training Club

Q.May a player carry a weighted training club in addition to the 14 clubs selected for the round?

A.No, but a weighted training club may be selected as one of 14 clubs carried by a player, provided it conforms with Rule 4-1 (e.g., an excessively-weighted driver head may breach the limit on Moment of Inertia - see Appendix II).

I don't hate it when the Rules coincide with my opinions! (BTW, above I meant illegal to use, not to carry.)

I'll just throw this in here...it always amazes me when I see "weird" stuff in guys (and gals - i.e. Juli Inkster!) bags during competitive/tournament rounds. Alignment sticks, club weights, etc

I mean, why even have it in there? I understand you want it to warm up...but isn't your car right there in the lot? Removing it from your bag eliminates the slim possibility of a brain fart and taking it out somehow during the round.

Oh well, just me...I don't have any of that stuff anyway - have been playing for 40 years, and never owned anything that would be considered a "training aid"
