He played several models that were basically a blade but had a small cavity as well. Below is a pic of the type I saw him playing at an event in the late 1990's it was called the "N1 Forged" and it's tough to see in the pics but they were similar in form to the Macgregor Muirfield blades that he played.

According to photos on Getty Images:

1990 MacGregor JNP Cavity

1992 Nicklaus N1 Cavity

2000 (or earlier) Nicklaus JNP Blades, still using these at St Andrews 2005.

Hope this helps!

That's right. The were all made by Don White from the MacGregor Pro 82 forging, so they'd have been identical except the back design and stampings.

But it's the N1 forged set that he was cleaning up with on the Senior tour and Shell's Wonderful World of Golf. The retail set is essentially the same (made by Mac from the pro 82) as the set he used. When his company released the JNP blades he switched to a set that looked like those. But his were one offs, the retail set was made from a different forging (which was bigger for one), so he used the Nicklaus JNPs in name only.

Hi, wondering if anybody has a clear idea about these. Macgregor JN Custom Limited

Their vintage seems to be around 1989, Serial is SO89878B, my guess and only a guess is that they special order from 1989, shaft and grips consistent with year but toe is boxier than Murifields and looks like they were ground that way to order. Any input is welcome. thanks.

They look more like Muirfields than Muirfield 20ths. They could easily be early to mid 80s based on the Pro-81 forging. Since the ferrule says "SO", it's a custom club whose birth certificate no longer exists.

Nard-

Yes, very much a custom ground to order forged iron set of MacGregor Jack Nicklaus Custom Limited model

As good as a custom iron could get almost 30 years ago.

Nut-

The clubs Jack Nicklaus used at the 1991 US Senior Open at Oakland Hills against Juan "Chi Chi" Rodriguez* were one of the best looking MacGregor Satin finish VIP irons (ground by Don White) that I've ever seen.

Somebody has to have a photo of them...

Nard those Macs = WOW, just WOW! Are they a never been hit find or just super clean used?

They were advertised as "lightly used but in unused condition". Pix show zero bag chatter or a hint of being hit for any duration.

Loved the shape of muscle, squarish toe and diamond stamped framing on face. They have tapered S300's (perfect)...................could not resist.

    • Titleist GT drivers - 2024 the Memorial Tournament
Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
