I'm headed over in August 2018 and managed to get a Norwegian Air flight out of Newburgh, NY to Edinburgh for $620. By far the cheapest I've seen (by like $500,) Yes, its not a brand name airline by I read some reviews and it seems fine.

 

 

Wow, that’s a great find! Out of 10 UK trips I’ve only been under $900 once and that was years ago.

 

How many connections does that flight make?

 

Nonstop. I was scratching my head at first thinking it was too good to be true but apparently the airline's whole thing is branding themselves as a low cost carrier. The caveat is they only fly out of a handful of airports, Stewart Airbase in upstate NY being one of them. Coming from northern NJ, I would actually prefer driving an hour north to Stewart then make the dreaded commute to JFK. The savings on the flight will be paying for Kingsbarn!

I've gotten pretty decent at finding ways not to break the bank once I'm in the UK, especially with the exchange rate favorable like it is now. But no matter how much cost I shave off the UK side the airline ticket makes it an expensive vacation no matter what. And seems to get worse every year.

 

If I had the option of a flight for 600 bucks I'd probably come with you! Enjoy.
