Gap members that play munis?

Hi All;

 

Any Golf Association of Philadelphia members play Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Philadelphia municipal course often?

 

I just moved into Philadelphia in June and because of its location in relation to my home, and the times I play – mostly after work on weekdays, FDR is my home course. Let me follow that up quickly with the thought that, like a gym, although there are much nicer courses around, proximity to my home and work was the chief factor in choosing this course. I just can't see myself getting in my car and driving 40+ minutes at rush hour after work to play a round of golf three times a week. All of its perceived or real imperfections aside, having an inner-city place to play a round less than 10 minutes from home is most likely the reason most folks play this course.

 

Anyway, enough defending FDR. It has its fair share of scathing reviews, so I’ll just say for me, it works right now.

I recently established my GAP membership and noticed that the process for Member Play Day registration allows you to build your team using GHIN numbers (assuming all are registration lottery winners).

 

I was wondering if there are folks who regularly play FDR that are also GAP members. There appears to be a well-populated league scoreboard at FDR, so I’m curious about the number of players there who also participate in GAP events.

I've been paired with a few people in GAP events/play days over the years that either played at or kept their handicaps at the Philly muni courses, so they are out there, though I do not play in the championship-type events for scratch/low cap players. Not sure how you'd hook up with them outside of reading the event tee time sheets and stalking them other than getting involved in the FDR leagues which I know nothing about.

 

In the member play day lotteries, one person can reserve up to four spots, then if that one person wins the lottery, they can fill the remaining players in the reservation with anyone who has a GHIN #. All of the group members don't have to enter and win the lottery individually.

 

I've also played with a lot of people in play days that weren't really members of a private club but just kept a handicap at places like Jeffersonville or Pinecrest which in turn gives them access to GAP events, so they are out there as well.

You should check out joining Woodcrest cc in Cherry Hill nj. I used to live in s Philly and play 4x a week and many members still do it.
