NW Houston Suggestions

Coming into Houston for business late this week but have time to fit in two rounds. Already booked Blackhorse South for one of them, where should we look for the other?

 

Hotel is by 290/Sam Houston intersection. Will have a car but not trying to drive too far from that area as that is where the client is located as well.

Agree with Cypress lakes. Not the hardest course but always in great shape

Thanks, guys. We looked all around and ended up with Blackhorse South on Thursday and Cypress Lakes on Friday.

I'm playing Cypress Lakes tomorrow morning. I always enjoy playing there because, despite the almost-gratuitous water hazards, the layout offers a nice balance of tests on drives and approaches.

 

So many Houston courses have "bayou routings" that make them almost indistinguishable from one another. You can place nearly every course on the west side of town in this same boat—both Quail Valley tracks, Meadowbrook Farms, Cinco Ranch, Blackhorse North and South, and Greatwood.

 

My favorite public Houston routings under $100 are:

• Cypresswood Tradition (fingers crossed this course comes back next year; it's a top 5 in this part of the state)
  
• Clear Creek
  
• Cypress Lakes
  
• River Pointe
  
• Memorial Park
  

I haven't played Timber Creek, but with 27 house-free holes, the place looks like a good time.

 

If you're inclined to travel an hour outside of town, Eagle Pointe (Mont Belvieu) and The Wilderness (Lake Jackson) are the best courses you'll find.
