John O’Hara American Classics Driver - Info Please

I just picked up this driver as part of a classic collection I just acquired with well over 1000 clubs, and I have not been able to find out anything about it. It looks VERY MUCH like a Wood Brothers All American (like a first cousin type of close). This is my first post on this site but I’ve been reading posts for years. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Yes, a huge collection! Good thing I was a vintage golfer already. My current “players” are my ‘79 Hogan Apex II Irons and a set of PowerBilt Citation Woods, oh and a Hoganardi Big Ben. Now I have hundreds of persimmons that I’m trying to sort thru.

I’ll post pics tomorrow as I would like to photograph it in sunlight so you can get a great view.

Ohara drivers were made in Oregon, Per Dave Wood they sued them for patent infringement , soleplate I imagine.Whenever I was at collector show in Oregon would see them at the shows

 

I played one just the other day that was made for Jerry Moulds, his name is stamped on crown, Moulds is famous instructor from Oregon

Great looking 2 wood. My 693 driver has a huge carbon spot on the toe as well.

I have an American Classic 693 with the same sole plate that is approximately 50cc bigger than my Wood Bros All-American. The grain and overall looks with the mahogany finish to my Wood Bros is as good as it gets. The grain on the John O'Hara is a perfect U-shape and it's in super minty condition. They sit next to each other in my collection with red, white, and blue barrel headcovers. I have hit a dozen drives with the AC693 and actually hit it better than my Wood Bros drivers.

i bet Lousiville golf had a hand in that somewhere. You can call them up and ask them. They are in the yellow pages for Louisville Ky. There used to be a factory, wood working shop in Leitchfield Ky that made the big persimmon blanks for Louisville Golf. My grandfather used to cut timber as one of his means of income, and sell blocks of persimmon. I am 57, so that would be been about 45 to 50 years ago. I remember going with him as a little boy.

I went and hit a dozen of the new persimmon babies today, none of the collectibles though. Three drivers were head and shoulders above the rest as far as feel and flight-

An early Stan Thompson and a deep-faced Irving King were great but then I hit a beautiful Daiwa which felt as if it was custom made just for me. I’ll add some more pics tomorrow.
