Grips... Standard or mid?

Good morning,

 

I have my mind made up on GP MCC4's

 

Midsize was suggested to me by the guy at the shop based on hand size in general.

 

I have hit clubs with regular MCC4's and love the feel.

 

Will going to this grip in Midsize feel too big because of its style?

Or is the Standard MCC4 slightly bigger on its own? More like a midsize?

 

Thoughts?

I can't speak specifically to the MCC4s, but for me playing standard grips felt like I was holding a kid's club or something and made my swing feel like I had to time everything. Switching to Midsize really took my hands out of it, plus they felt a lot better to me almost immediately.

 

If the regular MCC4s feel great in standard, I would go with those.

Standard regular grips definitely feel exactly as you describe.

 

mcc4 standards are a step above regular standard grips without question. I need to find a midsize mcc4 to swing to appease my curiosity though.

Just holding the little grip samples do not help much.

For me, standard grips feel too thin. I was fitted for and switched to midsize for a time. However, after awhile the midsize felt bulky especially near the cap. So I have gone to standard size grips built up with tape. I can make the bottom hand thicker without the grip feeling huge near the cap. I feel as if I have a better feel for the club this way.

So for me - standard grips are too thin, and I prefer midsized. Typically play Lamkin UTX or Z5 mids.

 

That said -- I have used MCC+4 in standard in midsized. Because of the low taper design - I think MCC+4 standard plays much like a midsized (especially for the low hand), and the mid-sized MCC+4 I find too big (again -- especially for the low hand).

 

Also something to consider -- the MCC+4 midsized is super heavy and throws off the swingweight of the club. You will need to add weight back into the head to get the club to swing on proper swing weight (this is also the case for any standard to midsized grip change -- but I find MCC+4s to be especially heavy).

I just moved to the MCC+4 midsize. Based on my handsize, I wouldn't probably be fit into midsize, last fitting suggested regulars with 3 wraps of tape. I hit a buddies clubs a couple weeks ago and he had the midsize mcc+4s and I really liked them and switched all of my grips. For me, it helps lessen my grip pressure. So I'd sure give it a try on one of your clubs and see if you like it. For me, it's a winner.

My hands are not that big, about 7.5", and the recommendation was 8.5" or larger should consider mid-size. But mid-size just feels better to me and I don't seem to grip the club as tightly as when I used a standard grip.

go with whatever feels best. I've played standard all the way to jumbo. Just went with what size felt the best at that time.

I tried mid-sized grips years ago, but didn't like the way they took my hand timing out of the release. I wear a XXL glove but carry the grip down in my fingers. But I think that is going to change.

 

I'm older now, and everything is slowing down, especially the timing of my hands/release. And I'm pretty sure I'm getting arthritis in my hands as they ache after playing, and I find that I have to work my fingers every morning to get them to where I can make a fist.

 

So I'm thinking I'll be switching to mid-sized CP2 pros the next time I regrip. Getting old(er) is not for the faint of heart... ;)
