Getting Golf Buddies

last year I bought a pass and played a lot at our local course. Usually play by myself in the evenings but like to get 18 in a Saturday morning. My Son was my golf buddy for years but now is married and has a family of his own. I don't like playing alone so much but most of the guys at the course seem to have their own groups. How did you get hooked up with your golf buddies? Most of the tournaments at our course are 4 man scrambles so that is hard to get into without a team.

My closest golf friends i met when i joined a private club. That's actually happened twice now....First club i joined i met 3 guys i still talk to regularly , though we went our separate ways club wise. I joined the club i'm at now, again alone not really sure what would happen. And i got hooked up with a new group of guy after 3-4 years who i now talk to basically every week

So my 6 closest golf friends were actually two separate threesomes i met at my first two private clubs. I am still good friends with all of them

I am in a similar boat myself. Looking for a regular group to play with. You may want to check Meetup and see if they have a local golf group, or start your own.

I was going to recommend meetup as well. If you’re a decent size area you can probably find a couple groups to join

If you play on Saturday mornings, I would think it’d be easy to get hooked up with two, or three other players. Just let the people running the course know that you’d be glad to play with other people. I’ve made tons of friends that way.

Most areas have a strong contingent on WRX. I met guys through WRX and we have a group of 30+ that get together regularly. We have a stableford event this weekend. Reach out via WRX and see what bites.

I don't know what your work situation is but try sending out a mass email. I almost stopped playing golf for the same reason so I tried asking people at work and now I have a group of friends I play with regularly. You'd be surprised who may respond.

Also - try calling courses and get involved with a league. I got hooked up with a group who plays every weekend for 30 weeks a year and it has become the thing I look forward to all week. I've made some good friends in this group so between my work friends and these guys there is someone to play with every week.

Good luck - making new friends as we get older is easy for some and difficult for many.

Practice putting every Saturday - you'll make friends as people get used to seeing you and you'll start getting invites, some because of an last minute dropout. And your putting will be the stuff of legends.
