Yamaha Forged Irons Sold In America (1980's-90's)

I am hearing through a lot of golfers who are now in their middle ages that Yamaha had some of the best forgings ever. I heard that Scott Simpson played Yamaha and so did Hal Sutton. However, a quick eBay search shows new Yamaha equipment sold only in Japan. I want to check out the equipment that was sold during the 1980's as well as the 1990's. Throw me some Yamaha model numbers where I can start looking for them online, and elaborate with much detail if you have or had such sets.

I will start with mine. Early nineties, japanese forged (some say Miura, some say Endo, not sure), a creation by Takamitsu Takebayashi before he left Yamaha to start Fourteen Golf Co. Awesome clubs, Yamaha MX-25 Hal Sutton grind, bioflex graphite shafts. Butter...

Hmmmm.....Have seen something like this modified wingback design somewhere before....

The SX-25 looks pretty good, but I'm not big on pronounced flanges. Reminds me of the Titleist Tour Model irons from the early '80's. However, I do like the satin finish. I am quite sure by looking at the design that they feel far better than they look. Satin chrome all the way!

The ST-30 was definitely another one of the US models during that era. Tiny forged blade with virtually no sweet spot, sole grind made for someone that liked to dig trenches, and available in either a chrome or MgBR finish. Still wish I hadn't sold my set even though I'm not sure I ever really hit a good shot with them.

 

That was followed by the SX-35 which was supposed to a combination of the SX-25 and ST-30 but wasn't really like either one. Around that time they also made a copy of Ping Eye 2s called the SX-Classic or something like that.
