I've been away from Golf for 5+ years. What did I miss? and need some advice.

You've probably heard this story before: changed careers in 2012, got married, had kids. Swung a club for the first time since then a week ago (went very well after I chunked the first 3 wedges).

 

I probably need new clubs right? Here is my bag (new grips are needed on all):

 

Driver and 3 wood: 910D3/F3 (RIP 80x)

 

Hybrid: Adams Pro Idea Black 20* (x100)

 

3-9: Bridgestone Precept Tour Premium (s400)

 

48/54/60 Vokeys (200 series)

 

Titleist Scotty Cameron Newport (1993?)

 

My wife would kill me if I bought an entire new bag of clubs right now. I hit the driver pretty good but the spin is a little too high. I like the Hybrid, it goes about the same distance as a traditional 2 iron would for me. I've never liked the 3 wood much, should have gotten the deeper face model. is there are big difference between a 910 and 917 or other driver?

 

The irons need to be replaced but could probably make it another year if needed. They are basically blades with a hint of a cavity, it really doesn't do much in terms of forgiveness. the grooves are struggling out of the rough at times iirc but not horrible. I hit them well all through the set.

 

Wedges are probably the priority as the 60 is completely shot grooves wise and the 54 is pretty bad as well.

 

Putter is fine but it just doesn't feel as good with Urethane balls (compared to balata when I first got it) and i've thought about getting something new. (this one doesn't have an insert)

 

What would be your priority clubs wise? Wedges then Driver? irons?

 

 

 

balls: are my 2012 Pro V's still good? got about 15 new left over.

 

Golf shoes: New Balance makes golf shoes? what?

 

GPS watch? work well enough for me? i'm kinda picky about being 3-5 yards off but one or two is okay.

 

Anything else? What am I missing out on? apps? other tech?

replace the wedges and spend the rest on greens fees

Rather than a GPS watch, you may want to try one of the free phone apps for a bit. It sounds like you may be a good candidate for a range finder based on the precision you may want.

 

Agreed that replacing the wedges seems the move on the clubs.

Well, Tiger hasn't played much.

Priority? Just play as much as you can and after a couple of months you'll know where you need to spend the money ( like lessons?)

I think i'll replace the 54/60, take a few lessons, and then worry about the driver/3 wood next.

Don't fix something that aint broke. Play with what you got and you will know what needs to go.
