Best Austin Courses Near Downtown

Going to be in Austin for a conference in mid-June. Would love to find a course to get away to at some point during the stay. Would prefer courses not too far from downtown, but willing to drive a bit further for a must play. Thanks!

Barton Creek Canyons

Close to downtown your two best bets are lions or Morris Williams. Both are muni courses and not in the best condition, but the layouts are fun and both courses have a rich history.

If you have time to travel... I think falconhead and Avery ranch are the best two fully public courses. Star ranch is nice too.

If you want to go all out check out wolfdancer or try and get on one of the Barton creek courses.

I'm guessing you want public? If not, Spanish and ACC are your best options and they are both 20 min fron DT. Public, we do not have much at all. Muni (lions) is my fav but that is for nostalgia & you'll meet some locals, slow round but easy walk. Kizer is your best option IMO, a muni that can be ok but odds are it'll be very average. Forgot about Barton, if you do not mind paying a lot to play cart golf then you can call Barton and see what is available. Warning, ask about conditions and do homework on what course is available. As bbp1 mentioned, Canyons is their best option.
