Tampa Area

Need course selection help
I am going to be in the Tampa area soon and will have time to play one round. I am considering either TPC of Tampa or Innisbrook Copperhead. Is one of these greatly preferred over the other? Is there a course significantly better than either one that I am missing? Cost is not really a concern.

Thanks for any feedback.

Have not played Copperhead, but have walked it several times. It is a course I would love to play, and would probably recommend it over TPC. Have played TPC several times and have never been truly impressed. It is a well-maintained track, but has very few holes that I would consider special. You will have an enjoyable round there, but I think, of the two, Copperhead will be the better course.

Frankly, if you have the time, I would recommend a 45 minute drive up to World Woods for your round. The Pine Barrens course is usually among the top 20 public courses in the country (17 last time I checked). I prefer both 18s at World Woods to the TPC layout. If you are staying in Tampa, World Woods is not much farther away than Innisbrook. Definitely worth considering, IMO.

I lived in Tampa for a couple of years, and I would definitely recommend driving up to World Woods. Play the Pine Barrens course and you can say you've played one of Golf Digest's top 100's. Some other great courses are Lake Jovita, Saddlebrook, and Fox Hollow. TPC is a nice course, but won't leave you wanting to come back for more. Play World Woods and you will remember it for the rest of your life.

If you have an hour to drive up to Orlando, there are some great courses up there as well. Good luck!

I have played all the courses listed and TPC is the least impressive. I would agree with the other courses mentioned.

Definitely play Pine Barrens if you can make the drive up to World Wood's. If you need to stay in town play either Innisbrook Copperhead or the Island course. Both these courses are great.

World Woods is an excellent option. However, make certain you call the pro shop ahead of time and ask about the condition of the greens. The course gets an incredible amount of play and they do have their "down" times. Typically, they will give you a very fair assessment of the conditions.

That said, it's a tremendous 36 holes!

TPC is nice, but Copperhead is a better option!

World Woods absolutely even though I've never played it, the reputation speaks for itself. Be ready for some slow play though. That's the one "knock" on the experience. As for Copperhead, I've played it and it's phoenominal. Fun experience although $200+ it had better be fun. Overall it was worth it. How often to you get to play a "Tour" course?
