Glen Acres Golf Club

I played Glen Acres yesterday, and it was a challenging track. Anyone else play there, or are a member?

It has some great views of the Seattle Skyline, especially on the first tee. Most of the holes run North/South, that way you can see a little when your hitting into a green, or when your on a tee box about to tee off. It was fun to have my buddy say "I'm just going to aim for the space needle and see what happens." :)

They have a very small range with grass tees. Part of the range is for Irons only, and if you want to hit woods you walk down to another part of the range.

It was really tight off the tee. The tree lined fairways don't give you any opportunities into the green if you miss your drive to the right or left. The skilled player can get some really nice ones if they can work the ball both ways. If you tend to spray the ball with the big stick, leave it in the bag and hit a lot of fairway woods and hybrid/irons.

Its not a long course, either. But if you don't hit driver off the tee, it can feel a lot longer than it is.

Shots into the greens are not easy. There are plenty of bunkers to make you think about your shot, and all the greens are well above or below your feet. If you leave it off the green on some holes, your going to have a really hard time getting up and down. Some of the pins were placed really tight. This was hard because if your approach missed the green, you have a good chance of running it well past the hole (even off the green) when you try to get your up and down.

My favorite part: I was talking with one of the employees (great guy) and he said that in the summertime the greens run at about 12 on the stimp! That was really impressive. Just to give you an idea of how fast these greens can get, they were sanded the day before I played and they were much faster that any of the local tracks I play. It was awesome. We were told that when they are fully healed, they are absolutely dangerous. They had a lot of break in them, too.

It was only 9 holes, but you play from two different tee boxes. On the front nine you play from the whites/blues, and on the back nine you play the reds/yellows. This was cool because the different tees really changed the feel of the hole. For instance, on the first hole you have an open view of the fairway and can really go after it with your drive. But when you play it again (now hole 10), you cant see the green, and have to hit a fade to keep it from going OB. Its not a confusing set up, except for the 18th tee. You actually hit OVER the par 3 8th/17th. That was distracting.

It is right next to the airport, so you do have a constant supply of low flying aircraft overhead. After the first one, you don't even hear them anymore. Also, the course is right next to a elementary school. We played it when recess was going on, so there were lots of loud kids and bells ringing.

It is a private club, but it is VERY reasonable for the price, depending on age. They call it the working mans club. My friend is really thinking of joining.

Overall, it was a fun time. If you know a member, I think they can get you on for $20. If you get a chance to play it, give it a shot and enjoy the views and the greens. My buddy and I are going to try and go back in a month or so once the greens heal so we can see how fast they are.

If you spend over $100 at Puetz you can get a free round there...I'm planning on playing this next week finally (I've had the card in my wallet for a couple months).
