Opinions on taking a new position

Ok i am pretty torn on what to do with my current career. My current position does not challenge me at all. I was promoted and oversee an office. My boss works out of an office 100 miles away and allows me to work when i want, take time when i want, and pretty much come and go when i want. The only stress is managing the people in my office and pretty much boredom. This summer i was at the course most days by 3 and played 4-5 times a week. I now have the opportunity to take a much higher profile position which entails a ton more work. In my current position there is an outside chance of getting promoted again but it is very slim. The guy in my position before me retired from that spot and never got promoted. In the new position promotion is a sure thing but in the mean time will take on a massive increase in workload, stress and be constantly on call. Looking for some guidance on what you all would do ?

How old are you?

Respectfully, if the job is as easy as you say it is, somebody else is probably going to figure that out too eventually. At which time you'll be replaced with someone cheaper or simply phased out.

If you're reasonably close to retirement age that may not be a problem. But if you're younger it may be better to move now while you have a good option.

Agree with the above - at some point your position is likely to be chopped.

Can you handle the requirements of the new position? I’ve seen plenty of people promoted right into unemployment or a job search. If you can do it, do it unless you are close enough to retirement that you are counting months.

If your were close to, or close enough to, retirement I would go all in.

That said a job where you have whenever hours, boss 100 miles away and pretty low stress position. I would take boring every time.

Man, only you can determine what your goals are. I was in a similar spot to you a few years back, I had a director title, worked remote, had a few direct reports, but really only needed 25-30 hours a week to do my job and there was no real upward career path since the only two spots were filled by execs going nowhere. I golfed, messed around, did house projects, etc. I took a job where I had a chance to make a real impact but it required a ton of learning and work. It's been great, got a great CEO who's grooming me, a great team and learning a ton. Downside is I golfed once last year and twice this year. I started off working 60+ hours to get over the learning curve and to turn things around, but last few months has been about 45 hours a week, just not a lot of time to golf in the afternoons and the weekends are out with kids.

I don't regret the change at all, and luckily the learning was so fun I never went through anything bad as my hours and workload shot up. I'm in a much better position for the last 25-ish years of my career and hopefully on track to be a high level exec again.

Hope it helps to hear from someone that went for it and enjoyed it!

If you are under 40 I would make the change. If you are close to retirement stay put. I devoted 4 years to a recent situation very similar to yours and went from working 30 hours a week and golfing 5 days a week to playing 2 times a month if I'm lucky. I make a lot more money now but no time to enjoy it and that's not a bad thing. I guess I'm a little more satisfied but I do miss so much time golfing and being home.

Either way you will second guess yourself and there isn't a "wrong" answer here. Best of luck on your decision

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
