Well after 2 years after I quit my college golf team, I have picked up the game seriously again since working at oakmont. I previously played mizuno pros, titleist 962, and titleist 990's. These have all since been gone. I am now back to a 6 only 3 strokes off of what I was playing off of in college. I have been looking at getting a set of mp 33 or mp 30 or a set of 300 forged. When I started playing again this summer I have been using my dads x 12 proseries(hit em straight but about 300 feet high...haha. Im 6'5 so im gonna get my new ones tweaked a little. They are great but want to get something with a little more control. I noticed that these mizzys are going for good prices now along with the 300s. I m not sure if this is going to be to much of a jump from the x12 pros to these clubs. What do you think and also any other sets I should check out.

There are several used sets of 300 forged on eBay for low prices, around $200-300. The key is picking a set that is still in good condition regardless of the shaft since you'll need longer than standard shafts at 6'5". You can get them reshafted for under $200 with Dynamic Golds or Rifles (not Project X of course). Basically you'd have a custom set for around $400 to $500.

Any of the choices you listed would be great. Good luck.

I like the 300 forged, they are excellent clubs. I however am a huge fan of mizuno, played them in junior golf, college golf and am now playing them again in am tournaments. I messed around with the Titleist 690, 680 and they are nice blades, but I really like my set of Mp-30 and mp-37 mix that I have right now. I did find a set of Mp-14 in excellent shape off of Ebay and they are getting shafted right now. I am looking forward to hitting those when I get released from the Dr. orders. Have you had the chance to hit the Mp-60 or mp-32, both are really good irons. I dont think you could go wrong with either. I wish I could find a set of pristine Mp-29, that is the club I played for 3 years and loved. Best blade they ever made IMHO. Hope all is well and let us know what you decide.

Three great choices but you have to go with the MP-33. More compact head (to my eye) than the 300 and even easier to play than the shallow cavity MP-30. Some say the 33s give too high a ball flight - just get a stiffer shaft to help you keep the ball down. The MP-37 is also great, but a bit harder to play consistently with than the MP-33.

Have tried the MP-32 and MP-60 but they don't seem any great improvement (IMO not as good) on what went before.

That's my three halfpence worth on the subject anyway.

Go with what makes you feel the most comfortable in looks, and how you hit it after demoing each club you try. Don't let any other outside influences creep into your thought process...Good Luck! (And stay out of those nasty Church Pew Bunkers at Oakmont!!

MSpeed, are you talking about Oakmont Country Club in Glendale, Calif??

I play the 33's and pretty much will never buy any other set. If I do buy again it will most certainly be the 33's. I love the high ball flight, works great for drop and stop action. If I need release, I set it back in my stance a couple inches and play the roll (that is of course if I don't miss). If I need spin, I just try and cut the ball in half. These sticks helped me from an 10 to a 4 very quickly over my old set, sweetspot is hard to miss and they are very consistent and setup like silicone implants on Pam Anderson, a site to behold. :cheesy:

I have tried and liked the MP-32's, 37's, 60's, Cally X-tours, TMade RAC TP's, Cleveland CG1's and the Tlist 690 MB's

Don't sleep on the 300's, they are a great set.

Don't leave any Titleist blade set out of your test kit. I think the 735cm is one of the best iron sets that Titleist has ever made and I have tried them all. Other than that the MP-32 is a great club. Don't let any of the cavity muscle or bullet back stuff fool you. These are all the real thing and are playable at any level. When the cost is the same I'm going for any Titleist iron...

Save yourself some work and buy a custom set made at the factory. You can get basically all of what you mentioned for less than $700.00 custom made... What is buying a set that someone else has HO'ed out worth to you, compare to getting a set that is fresh... I guess it depends on how long you are going to keep them...

No I work at the oakmont country club in oakmont, pa. 2007 US open the course is going through so many changes over this winter.

Anyways I almost picked up a set of mp14's 2-pw today, I was over at my buddies house and he had a set in his garage he said he hasn't hit them since 98, they still had the original grips on them. He has only hit them a few times he said he bought them brand new through the team for about 30 bucks a club, yet he still said they couldn't touch his almighty mp 29's...haha. I am pretty sure I am going to take them off his hands though and throw some new shafts in them for a set to have around because it seems that ho'ing is growing on me daily  .

Nice, Right on 320 near Notre Dame girls school right? I live in KoP and not that far from Oakmont, Isn't that Corey Pavin's home course?

Good luck with those 14's they're some slick heads?

Dude, question for you, what are they going to do for parking when the Open comes? are they going the shuttle people in?

I am sure the school down the street will not be to accomidating to that many people! I plan on being there before I move to L.A so I guess I will find out.
