Bent Iron Tips

I just moved to some KBS $-Taper shafts and so far I love them. However, I keep hearing about the issues of the tips bending in KBS shafts. When this happens is it obvious? What signs of the tips bending should I be looking for?

in my experience, it was very obvious. You can see the shaft not flush against the hosel and increased offset at address.

example below... the first pic is the shaft with the bent tip parallel to a paper. you can see it's not flush. Second picture is an iron that's not bent.

Played a few kbs shafts and only ones I had issues with bending were c tapers. It was too hard to tell they were bent.

Are the C-Tapers the only ones that have issues? Or is this happening with other KBS shaft models?

I had a few Tour Vs do it in a set a few years back...

I will say this, I haven't heard of anyone having issues getting replacements after contacting KBS...including myself. In my experience, they will stand behind their product. As far as reshafting costs etc if you ran into that, I dunno. I do my own club work so didn't have to cross that bridge.

So is the main sign to look for increased offset? Any others?

I would put a ruler up against the hosel (like the paper in the pictures above). I had a bunch of bent tips with some Ping CFS shafts. One was obvious and you could tell at address something was off. As it turns out, 4 other clubs also had slightly bent tips. I could only tell when putting something straight parallel to the hosel (and shaft if it's not bent).

@ProjectX_Mizuno , I'd do exactly what i did to check. Use a straightedge of some sort.

Good luck with the $ Tapers - they are definitely great shafts, and KBS will stand by the product by sending you a replacement if it comes to it.

I have bent multiple Kim Braly shafts. Original PX before True Temper bought them and KBS Tours. He does not believe in reinforcing the tips of his designs so they are all prone to bending.
