Why cant one brand be the best for you?

First, I'm curious as to why **you** started this thread. Your bag contains Ping, Cobra, Mizuno, TaylorMade, Callaway and TM again...

As per your theme, it may be difficult without a full-bag test over multiple sessions to find it all in one OEM. Not everyone has that amount of money, much less time.

I've pretty well settled in on Callaway and Tour Edge for my bag. Three years ago I had TE fairway woods (see backup note in sig) and Callaway X20 Tour irons, Now it's Callaway FWs and TE Exotics CB Pro irons. The Cobra hybrid(s) crept in because... they work (and were on clearance for less than $90 each).

Callaway sponsors our two club pros, and we get first shot to test prototype clubs before they hit the stores. Callaway fits my eye very well, as does Tour Edge.

(Note: My backup bag is all TaylorMade, which we can discuss another day.)

What's In The Bag (As of April 2023, post-MAX change + new putter)

Driver:  Tour Edge EXS 10.5° (base loft); weights neutral   ||  FWs:  Calla Rogue 4W + 7W

Hybrid:  Calla Big Bertha OS 4H at 22°  ||  Irons:  Calla Mavrik MAX 5i-PW

Wedges*:  Calla MD3: 48°... MD4: 54°, 58° ||  PutterΨSeeMore FGP + SuperStroke 1.0PT, 33" shaft

Ball: 1. Srixon Q-Star Tour / 2. Calla SuperHot (Orange preferred)  ||  Bag: Sun Mountain Three 5 stand bag

    * MD4 54°/10 S-Grind replaced MD3 54°/12 W-Grind.

     Ψ  Backups:

  • Ping Sigma G Tyne (face-balanced) + Evnroll Gravity Grip |
  • Slotline Inertial SL-583F w/ SuperStroke 2.MidSlim (50 gr. weight removed) |

I haven't updated my bag sorry but I went from a mixed bag to pretty much all ping. Before the mixed bag I was all titlest. I went mixed bag as so many people encourage it. Yes it was still good but at my skill level I didn't honestly see any change. I went all ping for 2 reasons. 1- I'm in a regional town and our pro has every option for the ping fitting and 2- I have OCD so it was almost refreshing to go this way.

My bag is now g400 with ventus shaft, g410 3 wood with ping tour shaft. Mizuno 4 hybrid (the ping one actually went to far and caused gapping issues). Ping g410 irons, stealth 2.0 wedges and back to a ping blade sigma 2 putter.

Reason for the change. My swing has changed and I was at a point where my clubs were not working exactly for me. As I said my pro had everything in ping to test and I found stuff that worked so I bought it. It made me then think why can't others find combos for them that works.

The main reason I posted this but was to just see everyone's opinion. My G Spy recently posted on Instagram something about how it's bad to play a one brand bag as the chance one brand Is perfect for you is tiny. As I said at my HCP any GI bag is going to work the same but just wanted peoples opinions on why they choose to Mix it up say.

I would say its because no 1 company is the best at everything and while they may make something that can be make to work for you, its not going to be the best option for you and your game.

I would say that a lot of people, if not most, get waaaaay too hung up on brand and need to forget about brand and just play what works.

Its gotten to the point where even most tour pros have a mixed bag and play whatever works, instead of playing only 1 brand. Part of it is that contracts arent what they once were and these players are trying to make more money by having contracts with multiple brands but many of them also have kind of a free agent contract where they can play whatever they want to a point because they realize that no 1 brand makes the best of the best for them.
