Epic Golf Club?

I didn’t go through the whole thread but as a member of Epic I can say it’s awesome. I was skeptical myself at first but for me it’s worth it. I am a member of two clubs, one that is a top 100 club, and yea my pro could probably get me on some good tracks but this is so much less of a hassle and so expansive. I’ve been a member for probably a little over a year now and I’ve used it maybe 5-10 times and have had a 100% hit rate. Many of the clubs are the elite of the elite. The people I have hosted at my club have all been good people and really want to reciprocate and get you up to their clubs. I’ve really enjoyed it.

So they way you are presenting it, it sounds like EPIC is similar Thousand Greens?  What nakes it so different or why would you not just use Thousand Greens?

Epic is a pay service on the same basis as TG. My issue with TG is there are just too many members and its a free for all. My issue with Epic is it's a pay for play and these top clubs are not going to put up with selling access to their club which is basically Epic. There are other clubs out there that do it better, but you don't hear about them because they work for the greater good of the game or charity and not a constant advertising campaign like epic. I can't think of many top clubs that would be ok with you being a member of Epic so I would keep that on the downlow.

TG has an annual fee now but it is very very nominal.  The more you use it and not host back it cost more per year which I think is a good thing as it promotes what the intent TG was to be. Sharing experiences at clubs.

I see your point that there is a lot of members on there but that is just how it works.  If you belong to a private club regardless of level it will probably be on TG so you can join.

They flight you per se based on the course you belong too in the world rankings.

I know some feel the "flighting" is a knock as those in the lower tiers can not request to play a top 100 course as it can be blocked from the lower tiers by members.  I may be different but I think it should be blocked though. Top 100 course members were getting pinged by ALL the time for request to play so they started to drop out.  Adding in flights and then letting the member decide tier access was a good move and helped.

Epic with the pay to play aspect and I am sure there is some way around it but that could catch up later once clubs figure it out. Maybe they will not care but who knows.   What was sent to me privately about epic was basically joining for a pretty decent fee and then hosting basically.  If I wanted to play a different course that is where it appeared Epic made $$$ of me if i played somewhere or hosted others off Epic.  That to me it never made sense as why would I pay $$$$ to join Epic then pay more to play other courses then the guest fee with a member and then have them make more money off me hosting members...?

What other site/apps are out there that you note are for "the greater good of the game" ?

I paid an initiation fee and pay a nominal amount per month and then the green fee wherever I go. Seems perfectly fair to me. I can’t compare to 1000 greens because I know nothing about it. All I do know is I’ve been able to play courses that are exceptional and have met some nice people that enjoy playing golf at great venues.

Also not sure why a club would care if you bring a guest from epic / etc. They have no way of knowing who they are or where they are from. As long as people are respectful there won’t be any issues.

To me it gets down to eye of the beholder. Some people just value those opportunities more than others or aren’t on any type of budget. Surprised about the negativity towards it.

100% there are clubs that care. A 3rd party service making money off of access to your private/prestigious club is not something most clubs would want. Easiest example is the OWNER of thousand greens isn't allowed to host at his own home club.

the upsell matters to many clubs along with the selling of access.....  I agree it should not matter but to some clubs - they do

he was very open about that and I think it was handled very fair.
