Lost: wrist hinge or shoulder turn issue

If you do nothing else... (no arm lift, arm rotation, or wrist hinge in any way) should the shoulder turn initially start the club head up the shaft plane established at address? (When viewed from DTL)

When I experiment with a steeper turn it does, and the club seems to travel on a nicer swing plane without thinking much about hands and arms. Although I feel like I’m narrow and steep. If I turn in a way that feels more natural, the club comes way inside the shaft plane. I thought my issue there was poor wrist action so I’ve been playing with that a lot but it just seems I have to rely on a ton of timing and hinging just the right way to not be inside or too vertical plane wise.

I can’t afford lessons and I feel like I’m spinning my wheels. When I video myself it doesn’t seem as though my shoulders are turning flat when I draw lines but man, I’m sick of all the thoughts about arm lift and or hinging it’s madding. If someone can answer that first question in my post that would be great.
