Bag Review: Cobra Ultralight Cart Bag

My sweet girlfriend gave me a new Cobra Ultralight cart bag for my birthday.

 

 

 

Here is the promotional tag. 14-way top, EACH with full length dividers. 5.3 pounds. Nine zippered pockets (including a cooler), three of which are velour-lined (two of those have waterproof zippers). Four unzippered pockets (pen pocket, umbrella pocket, two open pouches). Dedicated putter well.

 

 

 

Let's review the front of the bag. There are five zippered pockets. The top two pockets have a cart strap pass through. Up top, there is a general pocket and a velour rangefinder pocket. To the right is a pen pocket.

 

Down below, there is a tee pocket, cooler pocket with drain holes (shown below) and finally a ball pocket. The ball pocket fits five sleeves easily. The two open pouches are located on either side of the ball/cooler pocket. The cooler pocket is easily large enough for two 32-ounce Gatorade bottles with ice packs (or even 32 oz thermoses). In fact, the promotional tag says it can hold ten 12-oz cans.

 

 

Each side of the bag has a large gear pocket plus a small velour-lined valuables pocket with waterproof zipper. The left gear pocket has an internal mesh pouch (where I rolled up and stored the rain hood), while the right gear pocket has a key ring holder shown below.

 

 

The right side of the bag features the umbrella holder, and behind it the D-ring for towels.

 

 

The bottom of the bag has a loading strap and umbrella tab. The top has two grab handles, one on either side.

 

When packed, the bag does not fall over but stands straight (on my carpet anyway). The single carry strap (which appears to be relatively comfortable) detaches, or tucks under a piece of black elastic. The bag came with a black rain cover.

 

Initial positive impressions:

 

1. Love that the bag has full length dividers.

2. Plentiful and thoughtfully designed storage

3. Looks great

4. Very light and balanced

 

Nitpicky impressions

 

1. The placement of the umbrella eats into the storage in the right gear/valuables pockets. I wish the umbrella was stored behind those pockets.

2. I wish the towel D-ring were closer to the front of the bag instead of tucked around the back right corner behind the umbrella.

3. There is no velcro glove holder.

 

To be determined

 

1. How effective is the cooler?

 

This concludes the unboxing portion of the Cobra Ultralight cart bag review. Happy to answer any questions. I will play a couple of rounds with it and let you know how it performs.

 

PS I think I found a cheap solution to nitpicky impressions #2 and #3. Fabcaddy D-rings and glove holders.

Update - played a couple of rounds so far with the new bag. Really like it. The cooler works much better than a Datrek bag I tried. It seems to be better insulated as there is no condensation on the outside of the bag or the club grips, and it keeps the ice packs working longer than the other bag.

The Fabcaddy D-rings and glove holders came in today from Ebay. Very pleased. Here's the D-ring showing the male connector snap (female on reverse):
