Broke 40 for a 9 holes for the first time

I have been playing golf for 4 years and half of the time I could only play 9 holes. Had seen my score lower from 50 sth down to 42-45 for quite some time, but never broke 40.

Yesterday started at the local club. The first hole, I hook the driver to another fairway but managed to got it over the trees and landed on the green with a 9 iron. 2 putt and saved par. The second hole, a 420 yards Par 4, I rarely made it to the green in 2 shots. Like normal, hit the third shot with a wedge to the left of the pin, then made a 16 footer left to right into the hole. I started feeling it might be my lucky day. Also saved par at the par 3 Third. par 5 Fourth, broke my record of 4 Pars in a row. Finally picked up the first bogey at the Sixth. The Seventh, a 9 iron chipping saved me from the rough and put it within 3 feet to the hole and par it. Picked up another 2 bogeys at the eighth and the ninth, and the half time score is +3. A big breakthrough! Couldn't be happier.

Congratulations. It's been a long time since I began playing and had similar goals, but I remember the thrill of doing it the first time. Now the next step...put 2 of them back to back and break 80! Good luck in your quest.

Great job! It's always good to hit a milestone/goal. Next goal: keep improving so the sub-40 round isn't an outlier.

Awesome, congrats! Great accomplishment. There's a lot of great golfers here on the site, but your average guy probably never breaks 40.

Thanks. Hit two rounds of 9 this week. 40 and 42. Still feeling good. I used to hit really well to get to low 40, but now it feels like I missed a couple of easy pars and got this figure. Not too far from breaking it again I guess

Breaking 40 for the first time is a great accomplishment in golf. I don’t have to tell you a big part of the game is between your ears.

 

I bet you will be breaking 40 often in the future.
