College Choices? Which would you choose?

Im in a bind...

Hello everyone, I have somewhat of a dilema and I would appreciate any help. I am a scratch golfer, good resume (good AJGA results), and recently scored 1710 on the SAT's. I live in the north and I am looking for any information on the following schools and their golf program. If anyone has any information about them, it would be much appreciated.

Lynn University- Boca Raton, FL
Rollins College- Winter Park, FL
Eckerd College- T.Bay, FL
St. Leo University- T.Bay, FL
Nova Southeastern University- Ft. Lauderdale, FL
Lafayette University, Easton, PA
Colgate University- Hamilton, NY

By the way, I have contacted some of these coaches by phone/email, but it seems that most of the time, they are not available for whatever reason. What time would generally be best to reach a college coach? Thanks again

Lynn University in Boca isn't half bad (academically) and Delray is a great area. The golf is inexpensive and great year round.

For just education they would probably be rated as follows:

 

1) Colgate

2) Lafayette

3) Eckerd

 

But keep in mind that the first two are up north and have much shorter seasons and Eckerd is close to the beach and a much longer season.

Other than that just spend some time going to each school's website and seeing what you like.

Not to familiar with all of them, but I had friends that went to Rollins and had nothing but good things to say about. They were both from Ohio and moved to Orlando to go to school there and still live in FLA.

 

I could be wrong but I think they are ranked really high as far as golf programs for D2 goes.

JUST SAY NO to Nova Southeastern. Lynn is rather good academically and is in an INFINITELY many times better area than Nova. It also produced Stephen Ames, and, just for trivia, it has the highest paid university president in America.

Maybe ask yourself this question... what criteria would you use in selecting a school? Maybe some of these? Fill it out and rank them on your own and you'll come up with 5 or however # of good ones to choose from:

- Academic ranking

- likelyhood to make the team

- desire to play on the team

- coach, facilities, season

- location for graduates to get careers there? (middle of now where vs. major city)

- proximity to get back to see the parents

- other stuff...

If you're dream is to be a golfer, disregard the 2 northern colleges because the season i shosrter. If it's more academic, go for the best academic one and leave golf as an aside

Know nothing about the golf program. Didn't start playing until after law school, but grew up near Lafayette and it is a very good school. Would've considered it but it was too close to home. Some decent courses in the area, but you won't play in the winter.

The scale goes to 2400 now.

 

1710 is in the 73rd percentile.

My sister went to Colgate..I hated going to see her because it was in the middle of no where.
Be prepared for very cold winters with a lot of snow.

Colgate and laffayette are great schools. My family has personal ties to Lafayette. But if i had to choose between those schools it would be Rollins College. Very good golf program DII. As well as a good business school. It is very much a "Country Club" type atmosphere around campus which is something you need to be prepared for. Lots of BMW's in the parking lot.

Dan is right. I live about 10 minutes from Rollins and it is a pretty swanky area. Definitely one of the better areas of the Orlando suburbs. Ive played with a couple of their golfers before and it seems like a good school that is pretty tough. Overall, I would say come visit it and see what you think. Beautiful area.

I would agree with Dan. Rollins is a good golf program and if you are mainly looking from a golf perspective, that where I would look. I have a few friends that go there, one of whom is on the golf team, and they all say that it is a sweet campus and that they have a lot of fun.
