I thought it wasn't going to feel as good as this. I thought it was going to have a much firmer feel off the face. With a TP5 or Pro V1, it feels great to me. If people use a firmer ball, I can see how it feels clicky to some out there.

I'm quite enjoying it so far. I haven't had much time on course with it, but it rolls well inside on my mat. Tracks its line well and end over end.

yes, I use a much firmer ball which would add to the feel.

have found some love with my TriHot 5k and will struggle to find a putter that outperforms it personally.

Added the TSR2 woods back in the bag. I was struggling with spin rates with the Stealth 2+. I adjusted the weight but couldn’t find a happy medium. This seven wood is really good. I’ve never put a 7 wood in the bag but finally decided to do it. It gives me a club to hit my 235 yardage with some height.

I also added the brown LAB cover to my MEZZ.1 Max. I’ve got the pistol grip coming in today so I’m excited to get it put on.

My irons should be shipping out this week at some point and then I’ll be ready to start 2024 with my new bag!

Man, another one on the list that couldn’t make the Stealth 2 Plus work…Smh.

Look forward to seeing which Irons will be in the bag next. You’re one of the few people on WRX that make my bag look stable, Lol!!

As much as I tried, just couldn’t get it settled. I’ve tried two separate times with this one being the longest run in the bag for the Stealth 2+. I’m looking to have the current set up 4/7 to be my tee and into longer par 5 holes. I get more height and softer landings with the TSR2 head.

Yeah, totally understand. The Stealth and Stealth 2 I think were really catered to very high swing speed players, and were way too low spinning and fade-biased for me (and I think most Golfers).

The TSR line is really good for sure…hope it works out for you!

I’ve usually been able to mesh well with Titleist fairway woods but more so with Taylormade drivers. It’s always interesting and fun test out new gear but I’ll eventually just put what works in the bag.

I put the pistol grip on my MEZZ.1 Max, and boy, is it nice. It’s definitely a unique pistol shape but it’s growing on me quick. I’ve been using it the last few hours here and there, and I am enjoying it.

I’ll be taking it out on the course tomorrow, so I’ll get a good glimpse into how it’s going to perform on actual greens for me. I’ve been out about two weeks with rain and then a neck injury that had me out for good.

I’ll have a good range session with some updated photos hopefully. The Miura irons will be in next week!

We’ve landed a Taylormade Spider Tour Counter Balance 👀. These aren’t supposed to launch for a bit but the closest PGATSS (2 hours away) had them in stock. I called to get one on hold while my wife was in the area for a club volleyball tournament with her team.

As those who have been following for a while know, putters are forever the most changed club in the bag. Do I change other things, of course, but no where near my revolving putter door.

What I’ve come to realize is that I don’t change putters if I have one bad round - it’s more about how it looks and feels. The feeling and performance are also about when it comes to shafts, club heads, wedge grinds, and a putter’s overall consistency and performance. I’ve typically had a Scotty in the bag since I began my interest in them about two years after picking up the game seriously back in 2010. There was something about the look and feel of them that weren’t matched in any other putter.

While I have predominantly had a Scotty Cameron in the putter slot, I’ve also tried a few other flavors if you will in Nike Method, Odyssey White Hot XG, Ping PLD, LAB, and Spider putters. I’m not sure if it’s the fact that I’m now 35 but something has clicked where I want more balance in my set make up. Do I want Titleist or Taylormade woods in the bag, of course. Will I most likely have a great feeling iron in the bag? Yep. Vokey will always be in the bag.

I’ve shifted my focus this season to trying to have a putter remain in the bag because, well, it ticks the most boxes of characteristics I’m searching for. Don’t let me exclude the fact that it’s good to hang onto to something for more than two months. I’ve spent close to the last two months with a LAB Mezz 1. MAX - one with a stock shaft and the more recent one with the Accra shaft. I preferred the feel and sound of the stock shaft. The Accra gave a “TINK” at impact and it was very annoying to me ears that have been trained to a soft yet solid “TOCK” sound. I’ve been through one fitting and probably 30+ putter switches in about 12 years. The Spider makes up for at least 6-7 of them now. I’m not going to sit here and try to “split hairs here” with Walter Sobchak but I figured something’s ought to change this season.

Here's where the Spider comes down the water spout and back into my bag. There’s a reason why I keep placing a Spider in my bag - as to why I remove it? No clue. Besides the impulsive and pissed off teenager reactions to it, it still manages its way into my bag. I’ve now got my hands on the Spider Tour Counter Balance putter. I’ll say it reminds me of an old Odyssey Tank #1 I used for a good while. The Spider Tour CB is stable, feels good, and I love the true path. While the 3.0 grip is a bit bigger than the Pistol 1.0, it’s not too far off IMHO. I’m still shocked that the PGATSS had them out. My sticker had a label date of 12/18/2023, so they’ve been sitting on them for a good month and I guess just decided to move them out onto the putting green. I’ve been lucky to get the Spider X and a Golo 6.5 about 2-3 weeks before launch so maybe I should go buy a lottery ticket 😂

Who knows. Maybe I’ll get lucky. It’s either that or this putter gives my game a run for its money. I’m looking forward to putting it through its paces as looking back I’ve had the most success with a Spider. So far on my putting mat I haven’t missed right like I was with my LAB. Before you tell me it was setup, I tried everything.

So the Spider Tour CB was close and I used it at my fitting as well as my Juno but not consistent with aim with the Juno. The Spider Tour CB was good with aim but didn’t quite match up with my stroke.

Here are my results from my fit. My score improved from last year and I’m very happy with where I’m at now with my putting stroke. Everything was consistent and all I needed really was something with a top line alignment aid. The Ai-One Milled 7 T CH worked so well. I missed two putts with it all fit and we switched back and forth with a few other options but nothing touched this putter.

I’ve officially joined the Push Cart Mafia - dad golf in full effect. I guess it’s helping because I’ve shot two decent rounds of 74 and 79 Thursday and Friday. I went with the Clic Gear Model 4 and love it.

Putting average at 28 between both rounds and I’ll take that. I also swapped the milled 7 for the regular 7 CH and speed and feel are much better. Stroke is still smooth and alignment is spot on. I don’t get to practice much at all during each month other than hitting into my net once the kids are asleep, but that’s on RARE occasions. I was striking my irons better on day 2 - KBS seems to flight better in the wind than the Modus 120 I was using.

Handicap is at a 3.9 currently and it’s my lowest yet. I’m pretty stoked given that I don’t play nearly enough as I’d like to which is once a week at least. Summer could be interesting 🤔

That is Brackenridge in San Antonio - an A.W. Tillinghast design that’s one I love playing. It doesn’t get much attention being that it’s a Texas course but it’s one of the best public offerings within 2 hours of me. It’s short but tight off the tee and the greens have very subtle breaks in them that I still can’t figure out lol

It is looking good right now, but the front nine greens need some time. It looks like the winter got them in some good spots, but the back greens were better. Go figure.

223 back in. I almost went with the 243s but I got the 223s for a steal! My local shop was running a spring sale so I got the irons for $100 off of $999 with the shaft I was fit into. As good as the KBS was feeling, the Modus 115 was the best option with PX LZ next in line and then DG120. Shafts feel very stable and I’ve never seen myself hit 6000 spin on my 7 iron ever. I’m a lower spin player but descent angle has always been fine. You guys should know by now I’ve gamed a lot of good stuff over the years and always want something that feels great. With these shafts, they feel identical to the newer model.

I’m back in the 7 T CH Milled after trying one with the Bi Matrix 70 SL shaft. The putter now feels how it should for a milled head. It comes in this week and I can’t wait! I’m having a lot of success with the 7 head in the crank hosel.

For now, just my irons will be updated. I'm still holding off on woods until the new Titleist launch before testing.

I am however looking into new wedges. I might go with the T24 or keep my SM9s which are still relatively fresh. The only issue is deciding which grinds to go with since the C grind in the 58 didn't work for me.

7 T CH is back with the Bi Matrix SL70. Feel is less tingy (not a word but still) and it sounds more like a solid milled head should. I also think the ball comes off better.

Now we’re in business. Putter I was fit for that has the feel I was searching for.

My local shop here in town is Edwin Watts. I've become great friends with a lot of the guys there and they're super helpful with anything I've ever needed.

Where I do my fittings is at MK Golf Tech up in San Antonio, TX. I've had nothing but great experiences there. Knowledgable and don't push you into anything. I've completed three fittings over the years, two of which were for a putter. This time around it opened my eyes to something I wouldn't have considered if I hadn't had the fitter I did.

Thanks! I’ve been looking at what options are available for fitting other than Club Champion. Hadn’t really thought about going down to SA but I will have to check them out.

Nice! I personally think the 223's look a lot better than the 243's. I played the 223/Modus 115x combo in 2022 and loved it, but moved on. I actually just reacquired some Modus 115 to go into T150's and hoping that's my setup for awhile.

Now that’s a combo. I liked the T150 but these will be in the bag for a bit until i can finally do an iron and woods fitting maybe at the tail end of summer or after the fall.

Well, it’s inevitable. Walk into a store with zero intention of purchasing something and you walk out with two new clubs.

Imagine that.

I didn’t plan on testing anything until the new Titleist line drops, but I saw the Qi 10 Tour fairway wood. Boy, did it look incredible. I had to hit it. I did. Instant love. I wasn’t all in with my 7 wood, so I think that’s where the itch was. I ended up opening the 5 wood 1.5 degrees to get to 16.5 and the numbers were really good.

The driver caught my eye since I had such a good experience with the Qi 10 Tour. I didn’t even touch the LS and started with the Qi 10. I had my clubs with me and so I was able to test with a few options but settled on my Tensei Blue 65x. I will say that the T 60 and Tensei Limited were solid.

Changes will go in play this weekend! I’m excited.

After having a short stint with a counter balanced putter, I put one back in. I really enjoy the Ai-One feel and performance. I have been eyeing the Jailbird Cruiser since its release and decided to get one. It performed well for me during my first round with it in the bag. I ended my round at +5 with 29 putts. Since having an Ai-One in my bag, I’ve averaged 28 putts per round. This has been big for me in keeping my scores below 80 and avoiding rounds getting away from me.

On another note, the Qi10 Tour 5 wood that I’ve got turned down to 16.5* is an absolute rocket! I hit all 3/4 fairways with it and I may need to adjust it back to standard loft at 18*. It was flying just as far as a 3 wood.

Finally, a student of mine from last year gave me her final round ball from her regional tournament. Her team qualified for state and I was so excited for her. We talked golf every chance we got in between my English assignments last year. I was beyond excited and honored to receive this from her.
