Review: RedMax v. Bridestone e6

Bridgestone Clear Winner
Picked up a sleeve of each at Golf Galaxy for my round on vacation in Texas. Because we got backed up on the front nine behind Ben Crane and Glen "all" Day, I was able to hit 2 drives on many of the holes for fun.

RedMax - soft feel consistent with other Maxfli balls. Very similar to Noodle, but different dimple design. Distance was good, but not spectacular. Much to my surprise, this two piece ball was very high with irons. Durability might be an issue as a full Gap Wedge approach scuffed up the face on the 2nd hole. Getting a ball numbered "0" was a surprise.

e6 - Although I used to play Precepts, I haven't been using them for 2 years. Definitely had a different dimple pattern then the Precept. I expected a repackaged Ultra-Tri. I found it softer then my memory of the Ultra-Tri. On a couple of holes, I hit it head to head against the RedMax and the distance was about equal. Around the greens, this ball really stood out. Very nice feel and good spin on approach shots. I hit some nice wedges which stopped when I wanted and rolled when I wanted.

Verdict: For the price, the RedMax is a good value ball, but the Noodle is cheaper. If you like 2-piece, the small premium for the RedMax is probably not worth the extra $5 over the Exception/Noodle/Loco price point.

For the price, the 3-piece e6 deserves a good look. I found it superior to the similarly priced NXT in every way. I think I may have found my ball for 2006.

Thanks for the review.

If you try the e5 let us know how you like it.

The season is done here so I'll have to lean on the guys who live in warmer climates to give me reviews. :help:

I feel your pain. I live in CT, but my parents live in Texas. I leave my sticks here between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
