Expensive Golf Clothing you sprung for and were pleasantly surprised with.

I’m not saying the same piece of clothing is plain AND loud, rather most golf clothing is either extremely plain or extremely loud (i.e. ridiculous patterns or dumb slogans such as “make birdies not war”). Further, I mentioned those designers as examples of interesting non-golf fashion not as an example of clothes that should be worn playing golf. Visvim for example is a Japanese label that reimagines traditional western wear. So for example, it would be interesting if there were golf designers/brands that reimagined the style of clothing worn by Arnold Palmer, Seve, Hogan, etc. Maybe that exists and I have yet to find it, hence, my post in this thread requesting help/advice. Hope that makes sense.

The problem is that "fashion" brands price out a large portion of consumers generally speaking, so to jump into a golf capsule collection would be pretty limited unless you have a well-funded producer, or you just want a small run for whatever purpose. It's really the same proposition as we see in "regular" clothing lines, except now people are shopping for a specific purpose. I'm sure Off-White would easily sell out 500 pairs of a Nike collab shoe at a $500 price tag. But can they sell 10,000 - 50,000 pairs and actually make real money? Doubtful. Can Kapital sell a couple thousand $385 rayon polos with patchwork motif? Doubtful. Eventually one of two things happen: 1) you run out of customers, 2) many people who don't mind that price just don't know you exist because you're not carried by their pro shop or local golf store.

Then you have the materials. Most players now expect stretchy and moisture-wicking, which usually comes as poly and is cheap to produce. So the only differentiators one can apply is the fabric pattern, the cut...or the logo. The Greyson shirt isn't much different than the Amazon Essentials, it's just different branding.

So for better or worse what dominates the market are items that lean more mass produced. Adidas, et al have figured out they can sell a $%&!load of [cheaply made] solid polos, and occasionally a few loud patterned ones.

I think it is slightly ironic that you mentioned Palmer and Seve, because their era was dominated by solids with about 5 years of plaid pants. In a google image search of Seve, I had to scroll to the 24th line of pictures before finding a shirt that wasn't a solid white, navy, blue, or yellow. If you like that look, you can still find it in the main brands.

I'll end this with a question to JayK1313....what are you looking for?

P.S. "Make par not war" is simply a knockoff from the 60s. Reimagined for golf, just like you asked for, no?

Thanks for the response first of all and I should have elaborated a little more when mentioning Arnold and Seve. I didn’t intend to reference the color schemes per se but more the silhouette or fit of the pieces they wore. Now, Footjoy is producing a higher end capsule that I do really like. However, I can’t speak to how well it’s doing sales wise but are you arguing that there isn’t a market for a higher end boutique designer golf clothing/shoes? People spend ridiculous amounts of money on PXG equipment, Mackenzie golf bags, Tyson Lamb putters, Christ, Tyson Lamb divot fixers/ball marker, and the list goes on and on.

I’m truly curious where I can find sweaters, cardigans, form fitting polos (not made of cotton), pleated pants made to be worn without a belt cut high above the ankle (designed by golf brands) and MOST specifically athletic (“sneaker or runner”) golf shoes that can remotely compare to the diverse styles of sneakers that seem to be released on a daily basis. I would love to see a shoe in a style similar to the Sacai x LDWaffle, react element 87, common projects Achilles low or even some filling pieces.

Further, I think you would agree that ripping slogans from different eras is vastly different than say what a label like Visvim does.

But I would really appreciate if you could direct me to some pieces/brands that I’m just failing to locate.

thanks and nice chatting with you.

Peter Millar Vinnings performance polo. I had always heard Peter Millar golf shirts were the best. I like Bill Murray's stuff and FJ shirts a lot. Saw this Vinnings print and had to have it. After a couple of wearings I think it may be the best golf shirt I've ever purchased. I live in Texas (hot) and I sweat A LOT (hot) and this shirt handled it and kept me cool. So good I've already bought another PM shirt and a pair of PM shorts.

You're probably going to have to look to Euro brands for the fit.

As far as the collab stuff, perhaps we are getting closer to seeing that more frequently. The more brands like Malbon that show up, the more collabs with Palace et al, the more likely we see someone like Common Projects put out a golf shoe (or, you can just get the True Linkswear version for less than half what CP would probably charge). I'm sure there is a market, it's just small. Trust me man, I hate wading thru all the ill-fitting mass produced crap too. What i was just trying to say is what I see out there, and the challenges to finding what you're seeking.

@JayK1313 you do bring up a good point on the shoes. I think Nike putting out an Air Max version the past few years is a first step. I'd like to see them put the Air Max 1 G model in their custom program.
For all the cool NMD and Ultraboost colorways that Adidas has, they seem to refuse to cross those looks over to golf (except the parley and summer of love shoes are at least a step in the right direction).
Perhaps the issue is that the the old school country club types still dominate the buying. The guys who hold onto traditions probably aren't sporting Nike Sportswear or Lululemon Lab gear.
