99 Apex Forged irons. What do the two black dots around forged mean?

Sorry, I don't know for sure but I may have some info that might help because I was wondering the same thing about the 2 black dots. I bought the 3-E used about 17 years ago. Bought a new 2-iron custom ordered from Golf Galaxy shortly after that. The 3-E have the dots but the 2-iron does not. I recently pulled the shafts to change the ferrules as a project to keep me busy during quarantine. When I was reassembling the clubs I had to add about 8 grams more head weight to the 2-iron to get it to a D3 sw. I'm thinking the heads with the dots might be heavier than the ones without.

I think you're probably right. This is a bit of a coincidence as I've just made this discovery myself - I have a set of Mizuno MP-33s that I shafted up without any real measurement with some Precision Rifle FCM 5.5s a while ago. They've always felt pretty light, and sure enough when I finally got around to checking the swingweight, they were about C4! So I pulled the shaft from the 3i and sure enough it was 8-9g lighter than a 'standard 3i head.

A bit of research turned up the fact that Mizuno (and obviously Hogan) and others have often produced two sets of heads for some models - a standard weight, and a lighter weight that can be used for over-length builds to obtain a usable swingweight. At least Hogan had the decency to indicate such on the head - as far as I can see, nothing on my MP-33s to show this

  Alternately, I've read elsewhere that the two black dots indicate the lie angle is two degrees upright.  I've also seen the '99 Apex with one black dot.

I have heard the dots represented upright or flat as well
