I thought about a combo when debating i10s or g10s.When push came to shove I felt the offsets, profiles, and toplines were just tooooo different for having confidence in the set. I guess some guys feel comfortable with mixing totally different irons ,I felt its overcomplicates things.I just come from 20 years playing many sets of players irons and found the reduced offset(vs G5s & Raptures) in the G10s short irons eliminated the need to complicate things.

I spent an hour at the Ping demo at Pasadena last Saturday. I currently play ISI-K's, and am probably in the mid twenties handicap wise.
I really expected to love the G10 irons, but really didn't. The I10 on the other hand I really liked, they give way more feedback, and coming from the ISI's were easier to hit for me - I also like that they're more similar to the Tour-W's. For me the feel difference between the G and I irons is too much for me to want to do a combo set. Another surprise, the Ping guy had me hitting clubs 1/2" long without me knowing, still White Dot, like my ISI's - worked for me...

I also loved the G10 hybrids, so I plan to get 3H, 4H, then probably 5-9 i10, and Tour-W PW.
I briefly hit the G10 driver - that thing is too long, I'm longer and more consistent with my ancient T-ISI, I think partially because it's shorter, and also it had a choice of hosels and mine is upright - to I'm sure my swing is based around that by now.

After a lengthy outdoor/real turf fitting session with an outstanding club professional, I recently switched from the X-20 Tours (stock project x flighted rifle 5.0) to a combo set with the g10 5i,6i and the i10 7i-u wedge (standard length regular AWT shafts, white dot) and after 4-5 rounds (albeit in very cold, windy KS weather) I couldn't be happier.

As a 13 handicap weekend warrior, I won't pretend that I can hit the 5i-6i with as much consistency as I'd like to so I need the extra forgiveness the g10's provide - and they definitely do that without being at all hard to look at (which surprised me because I've always played clubs along the line of the X-20 tours, R7 TP's, MP-60's, etc).

I've also seen a lot of feedback on how demanding the i10's are and I'm certain that would be the case if I was playing them down to the 3i, but I found the 7i-U wedge extremely playable with exceptional feel and feedback. I think an earlier poster on another subject noted that just about anyone should be able to hit any club from the 7 iron on down.

To each his/her own, but I also didn't find the transition going from g10 to i10 in the set at all distracting. Still, its a no lose proposition because you can't go wrong with a full set of either the g10 or the i10 if you decide a combo won't work. They are both fantastic clubs.

I use a combo set of Ping G10 (4-5-6-7) and I10 (8-9-W). I'm very happy. I have playability up to 150y and forgiveness over 150y. Don't matter about the look difference, i hit 1 club at the time. :drinks:

Okay, I went with the I10 with zz65 stiff shaft. Surprised that they were easier to hit than what other posters alluded to. No problems down to the 3 iron. Traded a set of R7 TP for the pings and so far it's been a good decision. Lighter shaft so club head speed goes up a bit. I did notice that it's easier to fade the ball with these irons than th R7's. Still in honeymoon phase, we'll see what happens down the road.

I just went to a Demo day at Puetz here in Seattle and did a fitting with Ping. I have become more and more drawn to their clubs, way of doing business, and quality. I am a 19.7 handicap and currently use Cobra SSi's. I hit the G10 and it ballooned on me pretty bad. Even my Cobras are close to being too high a ball flight. I guess I dont have a problem getting the ball in the air. The I10 with the new AWT shaft was what my fitting put me in. I have never been fitted before so it was kind of cool for me. I ended up a Blue dot with Aqua grips and 1/2 club strong in lofts. I really liked the clubs and hope to get them soon. Also fitted into a G10 draw 9 degree driver and a G10 draw 4 wood.
