the perfect practice facility for the public

1) I have always wondered what people would want on there practice tee ?

2) How do you practice without any equipment or a teacher there at all times

3 ) I see good players on the range with a stick on the ground at that is it ? do they all have there swings tuned and it is just a matter of AIM ?

Well I think the main things I would want on a practice tee are nicely manicured grass tees and some targets to hit at at varying lengths. Doesn't have to be greens (though that is nice) but could just be a sign with the yardage on it.

Also to answer your third question no it is not that better players have there swings tuned so much it is just a matter of aim. IMO and I feel I am a better player (+3.7 handicap) the reason you see players do this is to take one variable out of the equation. If you are trying to work on your swing it is better to have something to help you repeatedly aim in the same direction without taking alot of time.

Gotta be grass, cycled through properly without being overly sandy. It sure would be nice to have various lie conditions too. And, it is essential to have accurate yardage markers and a plethora of targets to hit at.

I would like to see a practice facility that had more then just a driving range. It should have a large green for putting and a small green with a greenside bunker (properly maintained) to practice chips. The range should have good grass and accurate yardage markers.

The place I practice at quite a bit has yardage markers that don't move. The problem is that the tees are cycled from front to back so the markers are never accurate...or even close in most instances.

There isn't 1 perfect one near me unfortuntely but there are 2 that combined are perfect. The first has many teeboxes and 4 are enclosed on 3 sides, good for cold and crap weather. There is also a very large grass area off to the left with no designation of where to hit from. When it's not busy I'll hit short pitches backwards, then rehit the balls out to the range targets with irons. This also allows me to dial in say a PW to a mound w/flag then simply go back 10-12yds. to hit 9 and so forth.

The other has a range with mats and I don't use it all that much. They have a huge practice green with chipping allowed and you can get all sorts of crazy lies. It' about 20yds. across and 60-70yds. deep. I've hit full flops off a downslope and long chips with down to a 5iron. It's the biggest and best practice green I've ever seen. Now this place also has a par 3 course with decent teeboxes. Distances range from a short of 84 up to 142yds. The greens and greensides are actually pretty difficult with thick rough and bunkers. I like to play this little par 3 course for practice and they let me go around twice for $10. I've not gone under but shot even my last time there. Good practice.

Anyway, a place with everything those 2 have would be good for me but given the price and access I'll split my time between the two. Basically I've got a full swing and a short game range... the short game one is much closer to my house and that's a good thing. lol.

Good Grass, a short game area, plenty of targets to aim at(maybe some fun ones like beat up old cars.) available mirrors, decent lobby/proshop type thing to eat at, and not crappy golf balls
